Insertion and Final Value Fees

When did insertion and final value fees start  Doesn't eBay already charge us a percentage of each sale made Yesterday I was charged with my first insertion fee

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

If it is your recent listing...

it appears to be in 2 categories (which is an additional fee over your free listings)

it should have shown you the charge above the submit button before listing....

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

You have been selling for quite some time so I am surprised you are not aware of the fees eBay charges. Yes they do charge a FVF based on the total cost of the item and the category it is listed in. You get 250 free insertions per month but those may not include any premium insertion charges. Once you use the 250 free listings eBay charges you $.30 per listing. You should see the fees at the bottom of the draft listing before you post it. The fee information is in the following.

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

I'm not aware of when they started, but it's been well over a decade on both counts, possibly two.  You should have been aware of all fees before you ever listed an item.

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

eBay has always charged insertion fees. Around 10 or 15 years ago, they started giving sellers a certain number of listings with free insertion fees. Your account gets 250 listings each month with free insertion fees.

However, if you use any listing upgrades, or if you list an item in two categories then you are always charged for the upgrade or the second category.

The item you listed yesterday is in two categories so you were charged the insertion fee for the second category.

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

Not sure about insertion fees, but, since you registered on 12/29/03, if you have been selling since then, you have always been paying final value fees.  It's a little surprising that you had not realized this earlier.

Just curious:  How would eBay have been making money if there had not been fees?

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

Bad on my part. I accidentally listed an item under two listing headings and didn't notice it so I was charged a 35 cent insertion fee.

Re: Insertion and Final Value Fees

I don't know if this is correct, but eBay informed me that you also get charged an insertion fee for "listings" in the order and draft section.  I don't understand how that works, since they are not "active" listings, but that's what I was told.

@tia_unique_items

There are no fees for "drafts".
