I need help-possible scam?

I just sold two of my items through eBay. The buyer then contacted me outside of eBay to ask if I would purchase a $100 iTunes gift card and add it in wothwhat they bought. I am not going to do it, but now I’m even fearful to continue with my actual sale. Help!!

I need help-possible scam?

Did they pay?

Did you check to make sure payment was in your paypal account and it says OK to ship?

How did they get your email address?

What did they buy?  Expensive item?

SCAM.

It's a new one to me, but it stinks like three day old fish.

Call Trust and Safety and ask that the original transaction be cancelled.

(Is there such a thing as 'unwarranted demands'?)

Don't send anything until you have a definite answer from eBay -- which means you can SEE the cancellation on your Sold list.

And yes indeedy, the only trustworthy confirmation of payment is your actual Paypal page.

They asked for  that outside ebay email.  So ebay cannot take it into consideration.

You need to be careful about cancelling as doing so without reason can result in a defect.

That's a plain old scam attempt. The "extra" funds they give you in exchange for the gift card are no more real than the funds that you may or may not receive for the purchases themselves. That is, you'll either get a fake payment notification in your email, or they'll pay you with a hacked/hijacked source of funding that will be clawed back at some point in the near future.

Putting it another way, their request for the $100 gift card has tipped the scales from Possible Scam to Definite Scam.

Then the question remains - if they ancel what reason do they use.

And can they trust that when they call ebay and they say cancel you can trust them to stand behind it.

What can you do other than confirm that payment is in account and OK to ship.  Can you even delay shipping to wait for ebay to contact you there is a problem.

Wait 2 days and file the unpaid item claim. I just read where a seller fell for this scam.
