Did you mean:

I got scammed [part 2]

A follow-up thread on something I posted up before.

I agreed to follow the seller into doing an off eBay transaction and  my stupidity cost me my camera and the price. I am by no means defending what I did and it was a huge absent-minded behavior. I was not trying to scam eBay. And I got in contact with eBay customer service and reported myself and I was not penalized.

However, the part that irked me was when I asked if any action was going to be taken against the seller and the representative said "no." And the annoying part is because you can only report and leave reports people who buy from you, people like the seller can continually get away with their actions and still have 1000+ five star feedback.

The system needs to change where we can report people who we dont purchase from. Granted, you're saying "if you follow the rules." I know. But that doesn't mean people are free to take advantage of other people and this is the same reason why my friends do not go on eBay even though I love this website because these scammers float around and do w/e they want.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

Yes, unfortunately, you can only report a trading partner.  Off-site transactions do not apply per e-Bay.

Really sorry - these scammers know exactly what they are doing.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

So you did an off-eBay transaction and you want eBay to design something that will allow some kind of penalty for your trading partner?

There are already rules to follow.  It's not eBay's responsibility to try to save anyone from themselves.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

To be honest, I know this is a bit messed up what I am doing and I accept that it is shaming. But it is so insufferable because there is no outlet for what I am dealing with. eBay can't help. And I am not asking them to right my wrong and get my my money, just hold this person accountable, and even ban me in the process or charge me, but for there is to BE NOTHING done and so yeah, I can't win.

At least you know your scammer, many do not.

Karma is a curious thing.  When you least expect her, she shows up.

Don't give this person/scenario any more power over you - only hurts you, not them.

As with all things, if you learn from a mistake, and do not repeat the mistake...all is good.  We're human and mean people/scammers sux.

Best wishes for better sales/future endeavors.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

I hear you.

But eBay says what they did is against rules but they dont provide a way to hold this person accountable, which is messed up, especially because they are using eBay to do these things. And I am not asking eBay to return my money. Im asking that eBay's rule be enforced against them.

I did something stupid. And not everyone is aware of the rules (or has the scummy intentions of trying to skim eBay out of its money), some people are just regular people who make mistakes. And I can own up to mine.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

If eBay rewarded people who do not do eBay transactions, then that would partly defeat the purpose of doing transactions thru eBay.

At least you seem to have learned your lesson and kudos to reporting yourself to eBay.

@giusdema_48

Don't you see the irony here? If it's against eBay's rules... why in the world would they implement sanctions against it?

It's time to put this one to bed... good luck to you moving forward.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

Thank you for wishing me luck. I wish I could put it to bed.

I dont fully understand what you're saying. But in my mind, if something is agains then rules, that means there are consequences against it, if there is no action against someone breaking the rules, then it's not a rule, it's a highly suggested behavior.

if eBay says to me, someone who makes this offer can be reported, but I can't report them, then I can't do anything.

@giusdema_48

^^^ This is what is against eBay's rules. If you found an item here, but worked around eBay and took eBay's commission from them in the end... why should they help now?

I'm still perplexed as to why you wanted to call their attention to you, too. But that's just me...

@giusdema_48

You can't have it both ways

You can't disobey rules and expect them to be implemented against someone else

If you had restricted yourself to ebay policy, then you could have used that same policy against the scammer

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

Such is under buyer abuse: trying to purchase of off ebay.

What ebay does about such they are not going to say...

Learn and move on.

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

didn't catch "part 1" - but seems you were the buyer here not the seller(?) - seller by ebay rules, should be charged the FVF via ebay for the sale as outside sales of a listed item is not allowed and ebay clearly states seller will be charged FVF if they find out. Buyer has no action against them (that I am aware of), but when I get mails from buyers stating "we can do transaction out of ebay" - I simply say no.

The great truth is there isn't one
And it only gets worse since that conclusion...

Re: I got scammed [part 2]

have you heard................you should spread the word

maybe you can tell folks not to do what you did

lets get the No 1 detective on the case........who ya gonna call............ebay help or a CSR

ebay does not need to hear about your evidence since its not an ebay transaction

ebay is just not interested in having the CSR team play detectives

the team is for ebay problems and this does not appear to be one
