I have placed Best offer on a number of my listings because, well, they just aren't selling.
I have new listings that have been researched and my prices are not only fair, but they're on the lower side of fair.
I do not have best offer on those.
Yesterday I get an offer through messages for $100 for a $200 item that has a $250 recent comp and not a single one sold for under $175. Not one. And every one has sold. No unsold item at all.
I get a $20 offer on a $45 item that has sold comps for more than my $45 price.
I get an offer of $50 on a $90 listing.
Please realize that every one of these offers came through messages since there is no best offer on any of them. I ignored all of them. The $50 on $90 sent another message, this time pointing out that nobody has bought them. Her price is where they should be.
A few hours later I got to send her the best email. I'm sorry that I cannot accept your offer, since these have sold at full price and are no longer available.
That felt so good!
Solved! Go to Best Answer

Really?
Jason, I get this all the time. I have Best Offer on about 300 of my 3500 items. I tend to get some of the most lowball offers on items that don’t even have offers on them. It drives me nuts when people do that. I don’t mind if it’s a reasonable offer which I’ll work with people on the price but slap in the face offers I won’t deal with.

I don't use Best Offer and block anyone who makes one.
I had someone make an offer on a couple of items. The offer was only 10% off AND would I combine them? They were maybe 200 miles away and combined shipping would be less than my Flat Rate that I factored across country for one pair. So I said sure and made them a listing. They bought it and immediately asked to ship to an address that wasn't on the payment. So of course I canceled and renewed my vow to NEVER take an offer from an ebay buyer.
I occasionally will take the amount off of their offer, like $50 and add it into the item cost and tell the buyer that I will take the original price. But since they are blocked, the sarcasm is probably lost on them.
And I will occasionally have a friend buy an item that buyers are really obnoxious about, so I can send them a letter like you sent your buyer.

I love when that happens.
I just wish I could CC: eBay on the message.

I'm not even against offers, but when the seller isn't asking for them, why offer half?
Really?

Because some sellers will take them, especially if they are inexperienced.
In my experience, offers are just phishing to see if the seller is willing to haggle - once they find that they are willing to haggle before the transaction to make the sale, then of course the seller will be willing to haggle after the buyer gets the item to keep the sale. and they are helpless anyway

just for info............ebay was testing a statement just under the price for a while that said "this seller does not answer".......can't remember the exact verbiage........but if sellers didn't answer an offer within 24 hrs, their listings got the message. (where the "free ship" shows)....... Whether or not they are measuring none b/o offers, emails in general, I don't know..........but NO ONE liked that message on their listings.
Might be a good idea just to decline, rather than not answer..........
and I,too, love it when item sells at full price after a lowball offer........just makes my day.......

I use to automatically block those that made an offer if I didn't have the BO option in the listing. However, since eBay, in their somewhat dubious wisdom, has begun adding the option without a seller's knowledge or consent I usually just allow the offer to expire.

Even though we do not do best offers, you get people asking all the time. It really is irritating when someone offers half the price "if they pay for it today". Last time I had one of those I responded, or you could pay the full price next week.
If an offer is not too far off, I just explain that we keep our prices as low as possible for all our customers.
Usually, I get polite thank you after that....sometimes even a purchase. 🙂

Ebay changed their policy a while back that buyers are allowed to make offers even if you are not offering them. Before you could report them.
That is why I let buyers know I do not accept them, which makes me free to just ignore them.

My favorite is, "If I buy both of these, will you sell them for super duper mega less?"
Well, sure, I'd love to lose twice as much money ...

I still laugh when I think of an antique dealer who told me years ago how someone at an antique show offered him $25 for a plate he was selling for $50. He took the plate and broke it in half over his knee, then asked the "buyer" which half he wanted!

That's cutting off your nose to spite your face, but maybe he thought it was worth it for the laugh and story he got out of it.
