How to reduce returns

Got the March Vol II seller newsletter from eBay. They linked to a page on how to reduce returns. I have bolded my favorite parts.

----------

Simple ways to reduce returns.

Cut down on the costs (and headaches) of returns.

How to reduce returns

  • Ensure your products match accurate item description and clear photos.
  • Remove products with high rates of manufacturing flaws from your inventory.
  • Make sure you aren't sending the wrong items.
  • Use checklists for items with many parts, or for multiple items in a combined shipment to avoid missing pieces.
  • Package items securely to prevent damage in shipment.
  • Check returned items carefully before issuing a refund.
  • Issue refunds quickly—preferably within 2 days of receiving a return.
  • Ask eBay to help you resolve an issue.
  • Keep a valid return address on file, and manage multiple addresses through your preferences.

I'm sure it made sense to someone. Unfortunately that person is in charge.

Bullet points made just to have more bullet points. Not particularly useful, and similar to double-spacing your term paper to make it the required 10 pages.

Re: How to reduce returns

- Say NO to F R E E  R E T U R N S

- Stop showing buyers alternate listings AFTER confirmed sale.

- Stop showing/encouraging buyers 'return request' button.

& finally ...

- Stop, Stop, Stop Just STOP pushing unworkable policies down sellers' agenda.

The five return policy options will be:

  • No returns accepted
  • 30-day buyer-paid returns + restocking fee may apply
  • 30-day free returns
  • 60-day buyer-paid returns
  • 60-day free returns

Re: How to reduce returns

Thanks for the feedback, @dtexley3.  I can see why this is unclear.

The list covers tips to reduce returns, return claims and refunds.

We will revisit the page to work out how to clarify the guidance we're providing.

Cheers,

Jennifer

All you need to do is change the title of this one ...

Ask eBay to help you resolve an issue

... to ...

How to lose your item, be forced to refund, and then get a defect

Re: How to reduce returns

Wow.

1.  Like we just peek in th package and dash off refunds!

2. Not sure how the speed of the return in any way prevents other buyers from also requesting refunds.

3. No thanks - I come to the boards to research because though my calls to the CS have been few, they werent much help

4. and the last one of keeping our addresses current AGAIN in NO WAY keeps buyer from returning items or decreases the number of items.

These last 4 are like saying that you can prevent forest fires by eating more fruit for lunch at work - SSSSOOOO unrelated!

Re: How to reduce returns

I am surprised that it doesn't have one bullet point that says..... Just refund the buyer and they won't return anything.

It's impossible to reduce returns when Corporate so openly and aggressivley encourages them.
