How to disable auto-save when creating a listing?

This is the worst feature that eBay has come up with and people have been complaining about it for years, but they don't care.  The auto-save while creating a listing is the most annoying thing and makes it more time-consuming and frustrating to create a new listing (desktop browser).  Also, the validation errors don't make sense (says UPC is invalid, so asks to correct it or just leave blank.  You leave it blank and it still complains about how the original value is invalid).

Seriously, do they have a QA team or testers at eBay, or do they just let developers and marketing do what they want?

By auto-save are you referring to it being saved as a "draft"?

For me that has been helpful to me.  Put in lots of info, then have it fail to finish. Happy to have a saved draft.

Re: How to disable auto-save when creating a listing?

That's what I was thinking, too - during times of heavy traffic I've had my listing page crash, and am thankful for auto-save so I can retrieve it.  I've never heard of anyone complaining about it - maybe it's something else, then.

The UPC business is a mess, though - I just don't use them, even when I'm selling commodities.

@samsauction

I like the auto-save.

Don't know how many times I'd be working on a listing and my Internet shuts down or computer freezes up.

It's nice to return to where you left off at and not have to redo everything.

Have a great day.

Re: How to disable auto-save when creating a listing?

They have not been autosaving for very long, but it seems to be one of the best advances made in years. I don't find it interferes at all with creation of a listing. Maybe your connection is slow? The examples you give are as you say simply validation of data, not really involving the autosave per say. They have always used validation, before there was autosave. Two separate things.

Re: How to disable auto-save when creating a listing?

It is annoying because it keeps re-centering my page. I have to look around to find details and then I switch back to the eBay page and it saves, takes me to the top of the page, and if I am typing while it happens it will perform random commands. Very frustrating.

Re: How to disable auto-save when creating a listing?

This feature is a right pain. I want them to allow this to be disabled too.

It means I cannot deliberately save drafts for a later date since the list of drafts is cluttered with unintentional drafts and I have no idea which ones I need to make live at another time.

Drafts and Autosaves should not be the same thing - this is cutting corners ebay. 🙁

Re: How to disable auto-save when creating a listing?

The "auto-save" (create a draft) has bailed me out more times than I can count.  It is nice knowing that when the listing page goes wonky, won't load images, or crashes that there is a recent copy in drafts so I don't have to re-do most of my work.

I have have never seen the save slow down my listing.  It works silently in the background and I never give it a thought until I actually need the draft, then I am very grateful that it did it's job.

As for the UPC problem, just typed in Does Not Apply.  It doesn't complain about that.  I do wish that they would make the UPC an optional field the second you choose 'used' or 'pre-owned' instead of mandatory.
