How low can you go eBay?

After 10 years of selling $30k a month (average 1000+ per day with another account) sales dropped 50% starting October, then dropped 75% in November, and as of today we are at 90% drop for the first 4 days of December. What's really the point of having an eBay store anymore? Should we take bets on how much sales will drop after they switch the payment system? I hope Google blacklist eBay once for all so we can be done with this place.

We would really need to see what it is your selling to be making 30K a month. Maybe we can tell you why you are getting no sales.

If you really need the income you used to get from eBay,

why would you wish such harm on all other sellers?

We sell automotive parts since 2009 on eBay. Tens of thousands of 100% feedback, been here since 1998 and know the ins and outs of eBay. If you read similar posts, you will see that there seems to be a serious problem since early October.

It is not ebay, but persons within ebay that may have caused or contributed to bring about the dismal situation that exists for you these days.

I think it best to focus on what course of action is available for you to take in light of your present situation.

Your drop in sales could be a number of different things most of which is not something eBay did but something you more than did not do?

Have you made sure your items are in the new categories and sub cats?  eBay announced several changes in this area that would take effect starting in Oct. 2018 and would escalate for the next year.  This was all announced in both the summer and fall 2018 seller updates.

During this time frame the competition also escalates and chances you are now facing more competition than you did before?  This means you have to research your categories and make sure you understand  the current trend in pricing, shipping and returns.  Have you done any comparison in these areas against your competition lately?

eBay is slowing converting different categories over to a comparison shopping experience and if you are not supplying the required attributes you will see a decline.

Also have you made sure your listings are mobile friendly?  Mobile shopping is the future, well actually it is already here and a majority of transactions take place form mobile devices.

Just a few things to think about?

Good Luck Selling!

Lynn looks like you are fairly new to this place. I've been here since 1998 as a private party and 2009 as a full time business. This is not something new, eBay has been going downhill for many years but it has never been this bad. I don't wish you or any other seller any harm..au contraire, if you look at experiences from similar companies like our you can learn and know that if you're not a Chinese seller or a mega seller who can dump entire automated catalogs with 1million+ listings and all automated backend scraping systems to do auto adjust prices nightly etc you don't stand a chance on this platform. Sure if you sell collectible or some used clothes or toy or whatever it will be fine. But if you run a small to mid size business with thousands of items like us and have bills to pay (especially eBay bills), you don't stand a chance nowadays. We are already working on other avenue and will get out of here after 10 years by January just wanted to give you a heads up that something is seriously wrong with the platform. Best of luck!

Completely agree with you, it's the crook greedy executives at eBay who have changed the platform every year and made it what it is. They need to answer to their shareholders so all of them can keep their private jets, multi million dollar mansions and fancy lifestyle. We are the ones paying for their lifestyle and they're making things more and more difficult. More and always higher fees, fees on shipping, cross advertising on your product pages to display other mega sellers, forcing you to lower and lower your prices more and more each day etc. This is just a venting post nothing more. We have already started working on a action plan. We already let go the last person who was dealing with eBay shipments and they will have a terrible Christmas with their family unfortunately but there is nothing we could do. We will survive and grow but it won't be on this platform that's for sure. Cheers!

Thank you and I apologize for my confusion.

Actually, we've seen a few threads from sellers in your situation...

I hope you can find the best way to see what's going on ...

and make changes.  (if it's in your control?)

My best,

The minute ebay decided it wanted to look and sell like amazon-sellers left and many of those sellers also buy.

I am also at that point.  I don't want to have to sell cheap and ship for free to stay.  It is not working anymore.

Yes we have tens of thousands of feedback (100%), thousands of items with some of the lowest prices offered on eBay, all are mobile friendly, all categories are 100% correct, we sell automotive parts and accessories so there is not much room for mistake when it comes to our categories.
We call them twice a day and their worthless support says the same thing every day: our systems seem fine, let me refresh your account (really do you think we're that stupid after being in enterprise technology for 20 years, you're gonna tell me that you will "refresh" my account like clearing your browser's cache and all of a sudden sales will come pouring in??). So in short NO it's not us it is eBay 100%. Our listings are no longer shown, we always had overnight sales from International buyers and they have completely stopped as well, we don't get a single email or request from any buyers like someone turned off the Internet. It is pathetic what eBay does to the sellers.

There's been three of four threads posted here recently

also from automotive parts sellers...

Hope you can find them and review them.

Perhaps there's something in them that can give you some insight?

Sorry I did not see this post before I posted earlier.  ebay motors went through a complete overhaul for categories IDS and sub cats that started in summer 2018.  You were informed of this in the seller updates complete with a list of changes and directions on how to change your listings.

I think eBay said something like listings in this area that did not get changed they would change them to the best category they could figure out for the listing.  This might be where your problems are?

Phase #1 started in July 2018?

Phase #2 started in Oct 2018

Here is a link to the eBay motors changes  -  Click Here

Chances are your listings need to have some edits done on them to get them back in the new and correct categories.

Oh, and yes

those other automotive parts sellers also had been here a long time

weren't doing anything 'wrong', were listing accurately with good titles and descriptions...

and are in the same boat as yourself.
