how long do you keep items listed on Ebay, and do you think it lessens the value if it is listed for over 2 years?

I keep them listed until they sell.
Some items that do not sell after an extended period of time, I will lower the price.

Last week I sold a book that had been listed since 2002.
Another that was first listed in 2016.
And a sewing pattern that was first listed in 2006.
All had occasionally been taken down, dusted and polished, and relisted from time to time.
Many collectibles are "long-tail " sellers.
I also had a postcard that sold in less than two hours.

I sold 2 this past week that were in the 7 year range.
And yes, certain items do devalue over time.

Recently I had items sell that have been in my store since I started 2.5 years ago! My stuff is all paper items for stamp collectors. It's mostly over 50 years old so it's not going bad or anything!
I don't allow anything to look old. I do the End Listing / Sell Similar on my inventory 100 items at a time every Friday evening so I have New Listings for the weekend crowd!
Sending America's collectibles where they belong, one auction at a time!

I sold a postcard the other day that was on Ebay for 3 years and another that was listed 10 minutes before.
Sometimes it takes a while for the right buyer . If you're automatically asking $50 for a postcard it will be on for a while.

I've often said that I think if you keep listing something long enough it will sell eventually.
I usually keep listing things until they sell.
My SIL, who is also an ebay seller only lets a listing be listed for a year and then she donates it if not sold in that time.
To each his own.
I just sold some salad plates that I've had listed for a very long time.

NONE of my listings are two years old.
I end, and 'list similar' every 30 days.

I lower all my prices every single month, and I suggest you do the same. If you have had it up multiple years then your price is likely too high or no one in the world would ever want it.
A regular markdown is particularly important when selling things like you do as you seem to largely sell items that just aren't widely available and that you have to basically guess the prices on.
Other data I was able to quickly find is that you PERSONALLY have 86 percent of the listings for your specialty on ebay but you are only getting 26 percent of the sales in your specialty. That is a sure fire sign that your prices are too high.

It depends on what it is. If it is new in box merchandise it is probably losing value. If it is something already old and collectible it very possibly gains value the longer it sits.

I just sold an item that was listed for over 2 years. I checked my revisions and I never changed the price once.

I sell seasonally for most of my items (clothing) and most if it hasn't sold in two years it goes. There are some pieces that I will keep longer as they have to find their buyer. I don't have a lot of storage.
With inventory being so hard to come by these days, I'm keeping basics for longer, as I'm just kind of sitting on what I have now until it sells out.
Listings are refreshed every 45-60 days for me - 30 days isn't long enough because it has to populate into external search engines, and that sometimes takes a while.
I definitely don't let anything just 'sit', though.

Just curious, why?

I do the same, but I reduce the price 3 percent when I do it. Unless I am doing a clearance month and then I reduce 10 percent. As log as you know how to make titles and take photos a regular markdown schedule will cover over almost any other mistake.

Doesn't mean they're only '30 days old'.
I think the spirit of the OP was how long have you had them listed. Not what the system 'thinks'.
