The buyer has messaged saying that he received the item but the hold is still in place. How do we remove the hold? The buyer does not appear to know what to do.

The buyer cannot remove the hold; only ebay can.
Ebay will remove the hold about 3 days after delivery confirmation. If no delivery confirmation, the hold will be 21 days.
