Hot Ticket Items limits

Its a little disappointing that ebay is implementing limits on "popular items" for small businesses without any appropriate reasoning. Sometimes these popular items come in waves. Things such as higher end cell phones or new consoles might not even come into our store for a few months but eventually we end up with a handful all at once.  We rely heavily on ebay for our internet sales and ebay continues to let us down with new policies. We ask customer service why and they just say "First we would like to thank you for your 20+ years of businesss... but Its to allow everyone to have a fair chance to sell these items on ebay".  This doesn't seem fair at all. This is not capitalism and fair competition.

Good luck voicing your frustrations to customer service.

How is Ebay implementing limits on popular items?

It is perfectly fair. Just think if another one of your competitors listed 5000 of what you have all for a low price and you get no sales for the next 10 months.

I am guessing but I would think they only allow the OP to list a certain amount of the same item and he wants to capitalize the entire item by listing hundreds at a time.

We sellers are at the mercy of ebay.  That's how it has been, and will continue to be.  Good luck on your selling journey.

That is such an "off the wall" statement that I have to wonder where the CSR came up with it.

Makes no sense.

Actually it does. Even today sellers are not allowed to list the same item.

We are a second hand dealer. For example, if you have 5 used ps5s in stock and you want to sell them online.  Ebay might only let you list two or three of them. We do sell alot of our higher end items on ebay because they are harder to sell in store. What we can get in store vs online for certain items are night and day. We pay stronger prices to our customers for a lot of items because we know that we can sell them on ebay. Limiting how many items we can sell is going to make us reconsider how we do business.

Well, I guess I am just not understanding what the OP is saying.

I know I can't have "duplicate" listings, but  ............................... not sure what is being said here.

So what is wrong with listing 2 or 3 and then as soon as one sells list another? If you had all 5 listed would all 5 sell all at once? Or do they sell over a period of time. So by spreading out the listing start time you may actually get better views on your "newly listed" ones.

And to correct your second statement - eBay is not limiting how many you can SELL, only limiting you from LISTING them all at once.  Not really the same.  You are free to sell all 5.

Just a thought.

Actually that is not so off the wall as you suggest.

If there are thousands of the same item being offered for sale and eBay did not "reshuffle" the search result then the same 200 would always be on the first page and the others SOL. I have no problem with sometimes being on the first page and sometime buried in the bowels. Because I know that I WILL be on the first page periodically so I will get some exposure versus no exposure at all if the results were not constantly reshuffled. Think of it as a Ferris Wheel. Sometimes you at the top, and sometimes the bottom, but it will come around again to put you back on the top. Everybody deserves exposure - not just you.

It isn't even limiting you from listing them all at once if you do a multi-quantity listing. You just can't do separate listings for each one UNLESS they are all in different condition.

PS5 was an example. Normally we wouldn't list all at the same time. The problem is they limit the time frame. The first time we encountered this was last year during Christmas. We had a bunch of Xbox series S on the shelf that weren't selling. Grab one, list it, and sell it immediately. Buyer would pay immediately and we would ship out same day. Grab another, take new pics and that one would sell. By the fourth we get a message saying that we've reached our limit. Throughout the years We've done many hot listings including Pandora which at any time we could have on close to 100 different charms listed with multiples of each charm. Last year was the first time we encountered this issue.
