Holiday setting - negative effect?

Hi guys,

Do holiday settings cause a negative effect to your listings?

For example, my listing at the moment is situated on 3rd position on the first page when searched with the relevant keywords. 

I am planning to go on a holiday for a week so I will put the listing on holiday settings and choose the "Hide and block purchases from my fixed price listings" option.

Shall I expect when I come back and put the listing back on sale, to have lost its first-page top position in the search menu and to have gone somewhere on the 2nd page let's say?

That is what happened to me last year.

Yes it will disappear to somewhere on page 6.  I had the second slot in a listing and was selling 8 a day and got a duplicate listing and was deleted and when i reposted was on page 6 of similar listings. In three weeks i have sold the item once. Ebay always a great help to sellers  haha

Just came back from holiday, to find customers can leave a late delivery feedback even though holiday settings are on. Surely Ebay should push delivery date forward. Effects my top seller figures.

Try putting your holiday settings on, and not hiding your listings if you are only going to be away a week. I always do this and just spend 10 minutes every other day monitoring sales and sending each buyer a template message reminding them I am on holiday and that I won't be posting their item until I return {Also give the exact date you will be posting}. This works for me and even if I don't sell as much I still sell something while I am away. I also have a few scheduled listings starting over the week as well.

So long as you warn buyers you won't be posting straight away they are fine about it. Not everybody wants their item the next day.

Be careful! A related issue came up recently in another post.

Apparently, people can still buy your items when on vacation and you are dinged if you don't ship during your stated handling time. So you have to change all your handling times to after you return.

I had just posted the same thing and being told by EBAY that it is my responsibility to change my shipping time on all my items for sale to reflect that.  But as far as I can tell you can't batch that process.  I was told by a fellow EBayer how to accomplish this but when i choose the shipping part of a batch edit, I am not finding a choice for specifically doing that for my handling time.  I get nowhere with EBay on this issue and have been zinged for it.  Not too happy at the moment but certainly have no time nor finances for any vacation any time soon.  Hopefully eBay will get enough complaints on this issue, they will not punish us for taking time off.  I might add, nowhere in the vacation settings does it indicate we need to change our handling time.

No, vacation settings ONLY tell your buyers that you are away from your account. It does not change your handling time on your listings.

That issue is a seller mistake probably based on not understanding vacation settings.  No fixed-price listing that has been hidden can be bought while on vacation setting. 

Items that are not shipped within the handling time are late - and will be counted late by eBay.

Adjust handling times for fixed-price items not hidden on vacation setting. Sellers are always required to ship items within their handling time - any adjustment needed to meet that criterion are the responsibility of the seller.
