Okay, I know what the strap drop is.

The height is how tall the bag is.

Is the length how wide it is on the front surface? Is the depth how wide it is from side to side?

From what you posted is how I measure handbags.  There was an "official" chart eBay as to how to measure, which is the same, but I can't remember how I found it.  The chart is perfect!

Yes, the length is actually the "across" measurement - with your purse sitting on a table, take the measurement from side to side.  Yes, the depth is how wide it is.  Say you're carrying a tote bag on your shoulder; the depth would be the measurement from the side that's closest to your body, to the other side where your arm hangs.  An average depth on a purse is somewhere around 4-6" inches, depending on the style.
