Hey everyone, Im hoping since Ebay has taken the stance as we can't help you someone on here can! I sold and item to a user, with all of the new payment issues we used square card. Payment went through no issue, i semt him gis items valued at $3,116.06. He signed for them. Now a few weeks later he files a charge back stating he doesn't know the charge...I just had that same amount taken from me. Ebay said they won't help, no info, even if the name he used or address he had me ship to is correct. He has been a member since 2009 with over 1100 positive reviews. I just got done filing a police report (per Ebay) but it would be nice of anyone else has delt with this scum bag and has more than just his email. Can anyone out there please help me??!?!? $3,116 is alot of money and now my account is overdrawn..I'm unemployed and have been selling things to pay my bills so this hurts, now my account is negative and I won't make rent..Please help me

How would the OP have been able to use Square as his payment processor if ebay does not accept Square as a form of payment -and- if he had taken the sale off ebay, the how would ebay be able to put his funds on hold?   We need more information.

I'm guessing the buyer paid for the item through Ebay.

Since it was listed as local pick up, they paid for the shipping through Square.

The math just doesn't work out for that guess.

Read the original post again, and then read my reply in Message #12 to you.

For the eBay portion in your scenario, how do you get from an item cost of $2,500 to $3,116.06--a difference of $616.06--which is the amount the OP says his account was debited? It just doesn't work.

Re: Help I've been scammed

"Square" is a money processing service..... They are kind of a competitor to PP, used by very small businesses. Since you went outside of eBay for the payment, you have no protection besides with Square. Most likely the person that bought from you was using a hacked / compromised account, and the actual owner was not responsible for the transaction. I also have to say............... What "recent transaction issues"?? I ship thousands of orders a year, I've had no issues, nor heard of any.

Not sure where the quoted verbiage in your post came from. The OP didn't make any reference to "recent transaction issues." In the original post, there was statement that "with all of the new payment issues we used square card," which I assume was regarding whatever the OP has heard or experienced concerning Managed Payments. I'm sure MP's looking pretty good to the OP right about now . . . ☹️

Re: Help I've been scammed

As others have stated there are some missing pieces to your post that you need to clarify. A lot of us are confused by the "we used square card" do you mean the buyer used square card to pay the eBay invoice?

If in fact the financial transaction was handled through eBay and the buyers funds went into the bank account associated with your eBay ID you may want to read the recent policy eBay published regarding chargebacks.

Re: Help I've been scammed

Unlike PayPal, Square has card readers that will work with a smartphone allowing one to accept credit cards in person.

@volkswracing

If you ever come back, in your OP you aaid "Payment went through no issue, i semt him gis items valued at $3,116.06. He signed for them"

Upload tracking into the CCCB case showing signature and if the signature matches the card owners all should be well whether it was on eBay or not, infact even if it was eBay, they never help much with chargebacks anyway.

Hey I'm not going to listen to the rules and do it my way but I still want the protection as if I did it right, can we make that work?

Anyone want to take bets as to whether the OP will return and give better details about this?

I didn't think so.

Unfortunately you can never rely on Ebay to pay your bills when they can go into your bank account any time and take your money.

Millions and millions of sellers on eBay rely on a sound business plan to pay their bills.

A sound business plan requires planning, smart inventory management, a cash reserve, risk recognition/mitigation, and compliance with eBay policy.

The OP appears to have used "all of the payment issues" as an excuse to violate eBay policy by accepting payment outside eBay. If that is the case, eBay is not going to offer seller protection - something the OP should have been aware of when choosing to violate policy.

Re: Help I've been scammed

eBay” manage payment is no different than Square, Stripe, Adyen, WePay, and other merchant credit card processors. Any merchant including all of your mom and pop stores have to give access to there checking accounts so that they can recover costs of chargebacks if they accept credit card payments.

Prior to requiring sellers give access to their checking accounts like they do today, we were required to give the processor a deposit which they held for chargebacks. In my case I had to pony up $2000.00 which I finally got back when they came out with the option of granting access to my checking account.

I have given many companies access to my bank account and have not had any issues. I have auto withdrawal set up for all of my bills. Mortgage payment, all of my utilities, car payment, and etc. While I rarely carry balance on my credit cards. They all have minimum payment set up on auto pay just in case I forgot to make the payment. I also have direct deposit from employer. In case you are not aware when you sign up for direct deposit you also give your employer permission to withdraw from your account in case they over pay you. Most people don’t read the fine print when they sign up for direct deposit.
