So hard to make money now. 35 cents listing fee, 12.35% final fee and a new 30 cents per item surcharge. I pay 95 cents in fees on a $2 sports card. THats 45% in fees. Used to get plenty of free insertion promotions. Now I am done after the first week of the month and cant list until next month. UGH!

One thing that MP doesn't have is micropayments fee structure that paypal had
If I remember right (likely not) it was 5% & no .30 fee, under $10 maybe
That would have been a good fit for a seller like this

USPS has been awful!. In 2012 a bubble envelope sent anywhere in the world cost $1.72. It went to $3.30, then $6.60, now $9.00, Now I cant sell internationlly. No one will buy a $5 sports card and pay $9 shipping. Even in the U.S. it went from $1.71 in 2012 to a minimmum of $4 and even more depending on the zip code. UGH!

You are correct- I was on micro-payment with paypal. Ebay does not have it.

Thanks for the replies. Bottom line is I do this as a hobby for over 20 years. A basic store will raise me to where I will just have to pay the %. I enjoy buying and selling sports cards and sometimes you just have to say- you cant put a price on enjoyment!

Bro, this is why I have always called them FEE BAY, you are spot on, making money with these guys is JUST ABOUT IMPOSIBLE.
And all of these people who claim to really be making money probably haven't actually crunched the numbers.
Till you figure in the cost of the product, shipping cost and the INSANE FEE BAY FEES, you made just about zip.
Good luck bro!

Well, the original rant was published over 3 months ago, and that member currently has over 1,500 active listings, so apparently he figured out away to make it worthwhile.

Do not forget to figure in your federal and states taxes on your income.

^^^^ But that's nothing new, you always have to report income.

12.35% final fee
It's 12.55% actually - which is fairly close to the combined 12.9% that eBay and PayPal charged.
a new 30 cents per item surcharge
The 30 cents has been there for a decade. You just paid it to PayPal instead of eBay.
I pay 95 cents in fees on a $2 sports card
There have always been items that were a terrible fit for eBay. That 30 cent fixed fee that PayPal charged was 30% of $1 , 15% of $2, and 3% of $10. That has not changed under Managed Payments.

Not necessarily correct, although we dont know about the OP. Many people who sold small value items had micro-payment accounts on Paypal that significantly reduced overall fees on the Paypal side. It made a BIG difference on items that grossed less than about $10.

I had micro payments account set up with paypal......I don't know why ebay doesn't have a micro payments option.....on a $2 card they are taking 60% in fees....the small base card crowd is what makes ebay run

Your pictures are absolutely terrible dude lol....no wonder you can't sell anything **bleep**...lol I can't even see what card is even posted in any listing whatsoever

Did you notice the date of the original message here?
And the OP has evidently now figured out how to make money on eBay, based on the number of listings he currently has.

It just doesn't seem to be a big mystery to me.
Price your stuff for enough to cover ALL the bills (inventory cost, S&H, taxes, fees) then add to that a profit margin (personal decision) and THAT is the price of that item.
Oh. It won't sell for that? Too much money for a buyer to pay?
Then, put it in the trash (don't give it away or 'donate' it) and go find something that you can sell for PROFIT.
Easy.
