Did a lot of working on cruise ships and hit most of the ports of call in Canada.
Love the country. Nice people.
I did find Montreal and Quebec a little hard to navigate...I speak no French and the street signs are in French.
Sometimes I felt like I was in France...LOL
Canada is like two countries in one but cool.

Have to say this...the luggage carrying carts at the airport were free when I was there.
Here in San Francisco they are I think up to 10 bucks now and sometimes the machine doesn't work to get your carrying luggage cart out.

I grew up in Quebec, it's second nature to me to navigate, but I get what you're saying. I was in Hiroshima last November and navigated the streets by using landmarks and major roads to figure out how far I had to go to find things. I couldn't even find street signs and sometimes they were written only in Japanese and the map the hotel gave me had the street names in English letters. Trying to navigate the streets in Seoul Korea was even worse... we were only there for three days and paid a tour company to escort us around all day so we wouldn't get lost.

The most important thing to remember in Quebec is no right turn on red.
Also, est = east and oest = west. Nord and sud are pretty easy to figure out (= north and south).
If you say "oest" out loud (oh-est) then it makes sense it means west.
I haven't been to Quebec for a long time ... the last time I was there, I was visiting the Camaro/Firebird plant. It was fun to be the only engineer from Detroit who could sling French slang back and forth with the line workers. One guy just about fell over when I zinged him back in French. They thought they could get away with the cat-calls. Non.
Bonne fête du Canada!
