I received notice that I can now opt in for GD.  It doesn't sound like there's a down side, but hey, this is eBay. There could be fine print that takes a computer science degree to find.

Is there a down side?

Any comments, pro or con, would be appreciated.

This is just another example of eBay running your business instead of you. It's reached a point that I can't afford all of eBay's brilliant new ideas. Guaranteed delivery, free 30 day returns, free shipping. Whats next first item free? Each time you opt out of the latest great thing your items come up lower in the search results and your sales reflect it. As I see it, all eBay really wants is China mega sellers. The small seller just isn't worth it to eBay. Requiring a small seller with 500 dollars a month in sales to preform on the same level as a seller with 25,000 dollars in monthly sales ( who receives much greater discounts) is **bleep** and eBay knows it. It's time to start looking around.

Downside - dissatisfied customer if the delivery is late.  That's enough for me, even if eBay refunds shipping or gives them a voucher for a future purchase.  This happened to me yesterday when a disgruntled customer contacted me to let me know a package hadn't arrived on time.

Ebay opted me into this program and unfortunately it slipped past me.  When I spoke to a customer service rep, I was falsely told that I had to have entered into the program intentionally, which I did not do.

So my angry customer will receive a voucher for a future purchase.  It still reflects poorly on me as a seller.

I removed the Guaranteed Shipping from my listings last night, but have been reading that even though I pay for a store subscription and am a 100% postive (at this point in time) TRS with 100% tracking uploaded, that now my listings will be at a disadvantage just because I refuse to guarantee something that is completely out of my control.  How can I possibly guarantee a delivery date when dealing with the United States Post Office?  They can't even get our "guaranteed" overnight packages to their destinations on time.

Guaranteed Delivery

This is another ill-conceived eBay idea.  I'm more active as a buyer than a seller and can recall about a dozen instances where guaranteed delivery was specified for an item I purchased.  In none of those instances was the item delivered by the date promised.

This thread is over a year old.  No problem, though.  You should have called ebay to complain.  They give out $5 coupons when stuff doesn't get there on time.   Think one dozen x $5????
