It probably means they purchased it as a gift and used the gift recipients address as the ship to address and wants you to supply them the tracking number so they can be sure it got delivered.

Good Luck Selling!

Yes, item was intended to be a present, thus gifted, IMO..

If it's a gift for someone else, then you might want to message the buyer to see if they want you to ship the item with no packing slip included so the price for the gift is not revealed.

I shipped an item to the address provided via eBay/Paypal.  Turns out this supposedly was/is a gift to the person the item was mailed to.  The buyer leaves positive feedback for the tracking info shows the item was delivered to the recipient.  The buyer contacts the recipient about the gift; recipient said she never got it.  So far I have spent about 2 hours over this $30 item.  I have tracking info to show it was shipped and recieved.  I smell a rat.  I opened a missing mail claim with USPS but cannot open an insurance claim until 14 or is it 15 days after shipping.  So I will probably end up having to refund the buyer and I will have to wait to see what USPS does about an insurance claim.  I realize things are being stolen off people's porches now.  What can a seller do to protect themselves from these things?  There does not seem to be any protection for sellers now.

Why would you open a missing mail claim if the tracking showed delivered?  That is all the protection you need as a seller.  If the buyer opens an INR case, all you have to do is input the tracking that shows the item was delivered and it's a slam dunk win for you.

You have tracking that shows delivery.  You are covered.  What happens after delivery is not your responsibility, nor is it USPS's.

If someone has told you an item is a gift, no need to ask if they don't want anything with a price on it in the package. Most likely no one is going to want the gift recipient to know the cost.

This is just about the only seller protection left (for now).  You have a tracking number.  Item was delivered.  You're done.

No need to get in to what's a gift and what's a scam and what's a whatever.  You're done.

If the buyer opens INR case, simply input the tracking number (you must do this).  Then...you're done.
