Hi eBay Support Team,
Today, I was scammed by a user on eBay, who is both a buyer and a seller on the platform.
This individual took an iMac from me but did not complete the payment.
My listing was for collection only. He collected the iMac and promised to pay, initially agreeing to send the money to my bank account. This was at 10 AM in the morning. Now, it's past midnight (00:11), and he is not responding to my messages.
Can eBay do anything in this situation, or is it pointless to pursue further? I have photos of him putting the iMac in his car, along with his number plate and mobile phone number.
I am considering going to the police to report this incident. However, I would like information from eBay as well, especially since he is a seller and might have multiple accounts. eBay likely has logs of user activities and IPs, which could be helpful. Additionally, my message history with him can be reviewed to understand our communication.
I feel terrible about this situation. Trusting others has resulted in a loss of around 500 pounds for me. It's a sad story, and I hope there is a solution. Otherwise, it seems like anyone can commit crimes in London....
Looking forward to your assistance.
Thanks.

Well, no problem, guys.
I just wanted to know if eBay does anything in such cases.
My fault. Will go through the police and solicitors.
Thanks for your time and answers.

Why would you do that?
There is NOTHING eBay can do for you.

You gave your iMac to a complete stranger without being paid first?
???
You have no sales on this ID. iMac or otherwise.

I guess I trust people more than I should... Anyway, I just wanted to know if eBay can do anything. I mean, they have our conversation; they can quickly check and at least ban him from the platform, etc. Do they allow people to continue using the platform after such incidents occur? He is a registered seller..."

unfortunately yes.

Would it not made better sense to hold your merchandise for him until he came back with the cash in the fist.
Just so you know this isn't the place to contact Ebay Support and you are on the United States board also. So even law enforcement can't do a thing for you here.

You did not follow the procedure for an eBay sale.
Make a police report.
eBay is out of the picture.

After the "buyer" picked up the iMac, put it into his car and drove off, then rounded the next corner and disappeared, your iMac and promised payment for it disappeared also.
Why would you ever let go of an iMac and run the risk of losing 500 pounds on the promise of a stranger in any city, including London? SMH...
Ebay cannot and will not do anything. Perhaps your local police can, since you have the license number and photos. But they might shake their head, too. Hopefully not, but that's probably your only recourse and a very long shot.

This is a community discussion forum for buyers and sellers located in the US. Not eBay Inc.
Sounds like you set yourself up to be scammed. You definitely need to learn more about selling on eBay. Call your local police dept.
Sorry for your situation.

Seriously doubt any police dept would do anything; because if it was me, I would just say 'I paid him- he's lying trying to get stuff back for free!!

Yep, that sounds right but later on in the messages, he says I will pay you when I get home, etc, admitting he hasn't paid yet 😄

Sorry, it didn't happen on Ebay, so there's nothing they will do.
You can file police report, but since you willingly gave it to the person, don't know if they would do anything.
If they sell on Ebay, keep an eye on their listings to see if it shows up for sale.

The only iMac listing you have is currently active.
In your completed listings, the computers are all HP.
If that computer is still listed, you need to end the listing.

Moral of this story> NEVER take a sale off eBay just to make/save an extra buck/dollar.
Expensive lesson, but sorry, and I know this sounds harsh, but it is a well deserved lesson, I actually thought this was click bait, a joke............
