Ebay motors has a selection under condition "for parts not working" - I think it would be nice if there was a Check box when someone purchases under this condition, that they understand this and have read the description.
I think this would help prevent people from "accidentally" purchasing items that are in need of repairs. At very least it would prevent them from saying that they somehow didnt read that or the detailed description or the detailed condition description or even the TITLE that says it.... *sigh*

I'd normally agree, but there's people that generally prove they haven't looked at one thing in the ad. They just see "interesting thing they want" and buy it without looking at all the details and caveats. (I actually got burned by this in another category.) But "For parts or not working" is pretty universal in any category with stuff that either could work or not work. So it's not really that limited an issue.

If you want to sell anything for as is parts it's best to take apart the item and photograph the parts and pieces included. This should prevent anyone from accidentally buying something they thought could be repaired and prevent the theft of that single little part a scammer might want.

This was really meant as a sarcastic vent. I normally dont have issues with items in this condition because I am extremely clear with these type items. However I had a person buy an item recently that was for parts not working. It actually could be used as is but had a lot of issues. I put in the title in all caps "read description" Then I detailed very carefully all the issues with the item in both the condition and description. Of course that buyer claims they would have never purchased an item with those issues so, it is of course my mistake and they want to return it. *roll eyes*
I honestly know that buyers like these can never be avoided. Just dealt with as best as possible.

Car parts are different. A lot of times, it is a tiny piece that just needs replaced. Or the part needs a good refurbishing (more than I can do in my shop). A lot of times with my items (and is the case with this post), it is something that I have repaired enough for use but, really has a lot of issues. I sell these items because with corvettes there are many items that cost $100+ in great condition but, I can sell the item repaired/usable for 1/4 of the price. It will fix the problem, just wont look pretty.
People do take advantage of the discounted price. When it comes to these items, because of the way I clearly describe the items, I actually have very few issues.
It's just the few people like this situation that are frustrating. how the problems can be clearly photographed, described everywhere and the title says READ DESCRIPTION and you can still claim that you didnt know... lmao!
Thanks for your response though!

I think they would just find another excuse.

Correct, it is pretty much a scam as a seller already normally knows it is junk and not worth repairing and just trying to make a buck off a sucker.

I agree with you and i disagree with you. All the warnings in the world and some buyers will not get it.
I've told this story many times here.

My good pal cool, ever the optimist!
There is always a use for items that are not fully working. Some people love to tinker around and repair things and if they can get things they are interested in at a bargain, that they may not otherwise be able to find locally, then it's worth it for both seller & buyer.
The problem, as we know, is with people who only see a good price and rush to buy something and then wait for it to arrive without looking over the listing to ensure what they are getting.

How much did it sell for though? $50? 😮
PS: Why not just treat yourself to a nice steak instead? 😄

LMAO!! Oh that's pretty much what happened with this customer. He even sent me photos of the issues... that were photographed and noted in my listing. When I pointed this out. His reply was that I was wrong. That he would never have purchased an item with these issues and wanted to return. So I accepted the return with the understanding that he'd have to pay the return shipping.
It's not like the item was actually broken either. It was actually perfectly usable. Not broken at all. It just looked bad. Which I described and had 3 photos at three different angles.
I just had to vent because you are so right. There were so many ways that I noted it, mentioned it, detailed it and displayed the damage that he literally would have had to refuse to actually look at the item and just pressed Buy it now.. LOL. How does someone do that? I think he saw that it was 1/2 the price of the rest and just bought it without even looking. Frustrating to say the least!

Exactly, but someone who doesn't know that 'for parts or repair' is actually a thriving business and many people actually want this stuff isn't going to know that. We sellers aren't out to rip off EVERYBODY. 🙄
