Feedback

I've sold about 14 items or so  only received feedback for 5. Aren't buyers supposed to give feedback I have for 172 items I purchased

Re: Feedback

Feedback is entirely voluntary, both for sellers and buyers.

Re: Feedback

You're over 33% feedback on your sales, you're practically in first place in this category.

Re: Feedback

No.  No requirement on either side & the vast majority of buyers don't leave it.

Feedback is not required or mandatory. It is voluntary and optional.

...Not to brag ... but according to my Performance Metrics I've sold 1,958 items, and have received 909 feedbacks as a seller.

That's 46.4% ... and of course there is an obvious lag as sale is counted immediately upon sale and feedback is given quite a bit of time later (some time after delivery and sometimes a month or more later)... so I'm hovering below/around 50%...?

So am I truly a unicorn in this category/metric?

You are 😃  But I think it depends a lot on the category, some tend to have high rates of FB & others don't.

Re: Feedback

Gotcha.

I absolutely never actually went in to look at what % of my buyers leave feedback for me, but I was SHOCKED when I went to look today after the "33% being first place" comment. I sold 150+ items so far this calendar month, so figuring a comparable feedback rate on those items as well, I definitely think I'm @ ~50% feedback received.

Maybe it is my category. I feel the coin/bullion category can be so shady in some cases with the biggest players doing a "bait & switch" with stock photos, as well as over-grading ... so when someone finds an honest seller they make a point to say so in feedback?? Or the collectors are more of "long time EBayers" and play into the feedback game as they believe in it and its history? Who knows...

Re: Feedback

Feedback is as others have posted - voluntary and optional.

It is less frequently given than 20 years ago.

It is more common on Ebay than other Internet marketplaces because it is not a normal response to a purchase.

Most people do not say thank you to the cashier at the supermarket, and do not read or follow the instructions to take a survey on the receipt at McDonalds.

Re: Feedback

I look at it as no feedback is better than negative feedback! Some like to take it out on the sellers for a lost shipment or high shipping costs, which as a seller, we have very limited control over the postal services!

Re: Feedback

I have been selling on eBay for a long time and there has been a constant decline in the percentage of buyers that leave feedback. I used to get close to 100% feedback when I first started selling, these days if I get 10% I consider that pretty good.

Wow you have a cashier at your grocery store?? 😀  What receipt from McDonalds??

In all seriousness I agree with you people tend to not respond when everything is going well, sort of like this forum, but when things are going bad they have more incentive or emotion to do so.

Re: Feedback

Seems like everyone agree that feedback is Voluntary and is the number one answer, but another big reason is you don't have to be a member to purchase on this platform you can log in and purchase as a "Guest" after they pay and the item is delivered the need to log back in to take care of that is basically non-existent. I actually called and Complained to the high ups and they explained it this way .many people sitting on an airplane for hours on end. end up browsing and buying things while in the air and unless the item never shows up or is damaged in transit  we never hear from them again, But would you rather have the Revenue from the Sale or the higher feedback in our case we are lucky if we get 25 percent of our buyers leaving feedback.  Even though we leave 100 percent of our feedback the minute they did their job of putting the money in our account

Re: Feedback

@cc_wal_schfgio

I know this is hard.  You want more feedback so you look like a more established sellers and buyers just aren't very generous in giving them anymore.  At least not in a decade or more.  I may get about 20% of my buyers leaving feedback and that is about it.

One thing I would caution you about is do NOT ask your buyers to leave FB.  That can get the totally opposite thing than you want, negative FB.  Some buyers are pretty touchy about this as they know it is a voluntary system.  And they simply don't react well to reminders.  Catch them on a bad day and you may be back here trying to find out how to get rid of a negative feedback.  So be very careful with this and simply don't do it no matter how much you'd like to.
