On the 19th of July eBay sent me a Promo/Offer to upgrade my premium store to an anchor store for two months at the premium rate. I activated the offer and have been planning on it and waiting for it for 12 days expecting it to take effect today. It did not go into effect today.
I called CS this morning and talked to "Rebecca". Nice young lady and agrees that I activated the promo. Also informed me that the promo is a two step process and I missed the second step by not cancelling my existing store. I am not really angry or upset, but very discouraged and feeling like I am playing a carnival game or dealing with a reincarnation of P.T. Barnum. Life will surely go on. I would like an eBay representative @eBay to try to make sense of this.

Here is all the fine print from that promo:
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
For sellers who sign up for an annual subscription: if you would like to discontinue your discounted subscription, you must cancel your promotional subscription or revert back to your original store tier within 30 days of subscribing to the eBay store to avoid paying an early termination fee. Terminating your promotional subscription after the end of the Promotion Subscription Period but before fulfilling your one-year store subscription commitment will result in an early termination fee.
What is the Promotion?
Invited sellers (“Sellers”) who activate the offer and then upgrade their eBay Store Subscription, pursuant to the terms and conditions set forth herein, will be upgraded to the next level tier (Basic to Premium or Premium to Anchor), and will receive a flat discount on their eBay Store Subscription for two months from the start date of the upgrade (collectively referred to as “Promotion”). See the Subscription Fee Table below for discount amounts.
*If you are already subscribed to a Yearly Stores subscription, you must upgrade to the yearly store subscription of the next level store tier. Otherwise, you will be charged an early termination fee and will not receive the Promotion.

Did the fine print of the promo explain the steps required, and you just missed?
Without seeing the actual text of the promo, we really can't decide whether this was a "false" promo or not.

It could be the same offer. There seems to be a lot of fine print attached to it and I am going back later today and reread it just so I know. I am really discouraged with this because I have spent the last 12 days preparing new listings for it that I would not otherwise have listed or would have listed differently.
I honestly believe that when eBay makes an offer that they should hold themselves to the same standards that they hold sellers to and not play any "shell" games. Very disappointing.

Thank you for the information. I should probably be glad I did not get to participate in this promo.
I don't have an attorney on retainer, and should probably not plan on using any promos.

After reading the info from Parkers, I won't call it a false promo anymore. The conditions were stated and I ignored them. I will be more careful judging offers in the future. I do feel that this sort of offer is very close to "bait and switch" selling tactics and meant to entrap users into spending money they normally wouldn't. Similar to GTC.

We had the same offer, which I debated for a day or two about using. Glad I didnt!

You may have dodged a bullet there dude. I got the same offer and didn't even look, but for those that have yearly subscriptions there's a huge catch.

I imagine it's extremely difficult to downgrade within 30 days if you have a yearly subscription.

A few months ago, they made the same offer and I accepted. When it ended, they billed me at the full rate and I mistakenly paid it with my debit card. After hours on the phone with CS, I was able to get it rebated, but only as a credit to my future eBay fees. I now have almost $400 sitting out in cyberspace somewhere. A little transparency on eBay's part would go a long ways to promoting better feelings and dealings with sellers.
08-01-2019 09:22 AM
Thank you. I think I did dodge a bullet here. The last time they did this, I made them well aware that I would be ending the larger store well within the time frame stated to not be charged over $300 per month. They were also informed up front that it was my intention to use the 10K listings to work around GTC.
Gave me great flexibility for two months, but I will make a few simple changes in my listing process now and work around what I have. I think they are hoping that sellers taking advantage of the promo will overload their listing count and be stuck with a large billing at the end of the promo.

Deceitful Promo Offer would have been a more appropriate title. Then again, that's probable a given. I've gotten to the point that, knowing that, I hardly take any promo offer seriously anymore. With so many promos thrown on us with such regularity, eBay should be more up front with the specifics. I will not waste my time reading all the small print and still be at risk of maybe misunderstanding the full details. A real waste of time.

Just one more pebble on the rocky road of life. Being that I have invested the better part of 12 days preparing for this, I will spend one more day today trying to fix it by reworking the listings I was getting ready and putting on a few sales to adjust my current listings to a different format. It is what it is and I am over it.

I'm sure we've all gone through similar experiences. Staying motivated has been a big problem for me lately as I'm in a big decline in sales. Plus (or because of) the GTC debacle has really thrown me off my game, and am struggling to put a new business plan together. So much experimentation... like starting over but without the motivation.

I sincerely hope your sales pick up soon. I am retired and don't have any real worries about income from eBay so I get to play around with it and keep stress level low. They almost got under my skin today, but not quite. My time with eBay will end soon enough when MP becomes mandatory for everyone.
