Entering Item specifics

If item specifics are going to be required and the item will not be able to be listed without them then there needs to be an "unknown" and "n/a" added to each item specifics.  Sometimes that information is just not available and can't be listed.

You can just 'make it up' as far as the 'item specifics'; since they are designed for buyers to 'click' off to the side of a search to 'drill down' to a specific item.

So, if there are 'things' that make no sense, just pick one since anyone searching will ALSO not choose to use that 'specific' to 'drill down' their search.

For instance, I make/sell what my name is. There is no 'color' to that item'; but I pick 'silver' since that is the closest; but I know that no buyer will be looking for something like that- unless they want a 'blue' cover, well- great, my item will disappear from the search which is best for both of us.

Which Item Specifics can't be filled in?

Maybe the problem is Category, I looked at your recent listing for wood train track and it's listed under Action Figures? A few more also in Action Figures?

@bugnout85 I've confirmed with an eBay rep on this forum that if an item specific does not apply to your item, then you are allowed to leave it blank. They prefer that to N/A. Hope that helps you out. Best of luck to you....

Don't hold your breath...and I mean that.

The item specifics area is a mess and no one in charge will listen to your suggestions.

Over a year ago, when they went nuts in the vinyl music category, they created specifics that don't even exist in the world of vinyl and other specifics that are just out and out wrong, and after scores of messages and comments from experts like myself and others, they didn't fix or change even one of them. Hundreds of my listings are missing important information imperative to buyers, because they refuse to add the "enter your own" option to the categories.

Live with it.

Except for now, eBay is making the use of NA or Does Not Apply a policy violation for some Item Specifics.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/item-description-policy?id=4372

"Item specifics must be accurate. When item specifics are required, they must be filled out completely. The following are not allowed:

  • Use of inaccurate information such as "Does not apply," unbranded/generic, or "N/A" for required product identifiers (such as Brand, UPC, or MPN) when the manufacturer has provided that information for the product
  • Including information that is not specific to that field, such as the brand of an item in the item specific for size
  • Including terms in the wrong field of the listing"

How many of those are REQUIRED? There are only 3 that are in the Vinyl Category, the rest are "recommended" or "additional".
