Ebay requesting a Bank Statement

Yesterday I had a notice on my home selling page that I needed to update my account and send Ebay a copy of my bank statement.  I do not want to do this.  They have all my current info and when I have sold items, the funds are being deposited without any issues.  My bank card has been verified and they have the correct bank info.  Is this legit and do I have to provide a bank statement in order to continue selling?

It's perfectly legitimate.  Give them what they want or they will restrict your account until you do.  It's most likely for tax purposes and w-2's.

Wonder if eBay knows that many of us no longer receive a paper bank statement.  Even if I did, I'd be reluctant to share such information with eBay.

Yes, it's legit.........and yes, to continue selling you need to provide it.......  but what you need to provide is the header..........showing your name, your account # (which ebay has to have to deposit $) and your address......along with the bank name, etc.

you don't have to show amounts, etc.

Well, that makes more sense.

Re: Ebay requesting a Bank Statement

If it was a banner or in site message. I would say it is legit.

I did it the other day, I downloaded from my banks website, and just uploaded the pdf.

Took all of about 3 min.

It is your choice to do it or not do it.  Add choices have consequences.

I would proudly let them see the $97 I have in my account.   😉

Re: Ebay requesting a Bank Statement

Even so, I see no reason they need to see the transactions (as they insist on).

Re: Ebay requesting a Bank Statement

Yes you do. They insist on a bank statement without the transactions being redacted.

It's intrusive and far beyond what they need to establish ID.

Re: Ebay requesting a Bank Statement

Personally. I've been on eBay since it began, and my bank account was validated, and deposits are occurring without an issue.  What is driving this necessity?  I find it both intrusive and unnecessary.  No other business platform requires this but perhaps if it was explained as to why the sudden need, it would be better understood and received in a positive manner.  As it stands now, this is disturbing overreach.

Re: Ebay requesting a Bank Statement

I use Venmo debit card for payments, which I have been using for months. They have "statements" on their site but they are a CSV file. Anyone running into this issue?
