The nightmare continues with this jewelry authentication program. I do not believe the people there have reading comprehension skills or any type of education out side of being a gemologist. Here is another story. My item title reads "14k Gold Moon Star Sapphire Pendant Brooch. My item specifics say sapphire and blue sapphire. My description reads 14k Gold Blue Sapphire Crescent Moon Star Pendant Brooch. Next line states featuring a blue sapphire cabochon..I listed moon star because those are the symbols present on my item.. They almost failed this item because they said I listed it as a star sapphire.. Can you imagine because I listed in my title moon star sapphire they were going to send it back to me. The only reason it passed is because I called to find out what the hold up was and then reached out to the buyer to explain this nonsense. I explained to the buyer that the authentication center has a reading comprehension problem and no where in my listing did I state that the stone was a star sapphire. The buyer responded quickly and said she wants the item and understands. I spoke to Parker a supervisor from the authentication center but felt like he was just pacifying me. He continued to defend the program which was frustrating to say the least. He stated I should not have listed "moon star sapphire" in the title like that..Really?? We all know it's the first few words that show up when people are searching for items and moons/stars are very popular. This is now the 4th problem with this program since Dec 2022. I will post pics of this listing.. Never had these problems before the authentication program..

Uh, you did list it as a "gold moon star sapphire. Perhaps you need to reword those titles to reduce ambiguity by moving the word star away from the word sapphire.

I think there are a lot of inexperienced authenticators in all venues of the Ebay authentication process. There was a post here on this forum a while back from a seller who had a 30 year background in gemology and owned a jewelry store as well. His item also failed. What a joke. lol. Sorry for your experience.

I am just going to put this here because I know nothing about jewelry, but was searching for a star sapphire
for the uneducated buyer (like me), they would 'assume' this is a star sapphire...no?

I really don't believe they can read..Anyone can get a degree online to be a gemologist...I have never had these problem prior to this program.. The X-ray machines are also faulty ..they are NOT accurate and it depends on the person using the machine. The scary part is even after I listed in my item specifics and description details blue sapphire they still wanted to say I am listing a star sapphire...Really they cant see the stars on the pendant? Disgraceful. I am sure this happening to many many many sellers..I have had 4 problems like this since Dec 2022...smh Check my other posting about the X-ray machine

Have you seen the mess it's been with sport shoes? No to experts will always agree. I know people that buy graded sports cards, take them out of the holder and send them in again for grading. They often come back with a higher grade.

They're relying on bots, and bots are running Moon star sapphire into "star sapphire". You need to separate the two words. Star Moon Sapphire. Problem solved. Bots are bots and bots are DUMB. Remember you're writing for bots and type accordingly. I don't have a gemology degree but could probably run rings around the lot of them, and my specialty was COSTUME.

So tell me then what are the item specifics for and why bother to write a paragraph stating the stone is a blue sapphire? No where in my listing details does it say star sapphire . Are you telling me people dont know the difference between a symbol and a stone. Lastly if you know what a star sapphire you know the stone would have rays of a star inside that stone. Clearly my pictures did not display this...It still does not excuse the authenticator for not reading my listing details and item specifics.. Have we all lots our common sense??

Well I would hope the uneducated person would read the paragraph below which clearly states featuring a blue sapphire..it does not say featuring a blue star sapphire or star sapphire for that matter. The details also state 14k Gold Blue Sapphire Crescent Moon Star Pendant Brooch..lso in the item specifics it again states blue sapphire..not star sapphire..

I have read the horror story on here.. Its a mess...eBay does not care to fix the problem

The problem is the item was at the authentication center.. They did not bother to look at my item specifics which clearly stated blue sapphire. I also listed in my paragraph details" featuring a blue sapphire cabochon"..I never had to worry about my listing title before this.. What is the point filling in item specifics if they don't read them. My buyer understood completely what my listing was saying.. Its unfortunate the authenticators do not have the same reading skills...or common sense for that matter...

" I do not believe the people there have reading comprehension skills or any type of education out side of being a gemologist."
Sounds like the opposite, the authenticator can read but is not a gemologist. Even an amateur gemologist would know immediately that you didn't mean 'star sapphire' which is very different from a regular faceted stone.

If my wife asked for a star sapphire pendant for her birthday, I might pick yours because I don't know what that means. But she will be disappointed when she gets it. If you draft an ambiguous description, don't criticize eBay for caring. The fact that you have seemingly inconsistent descriptions doesn't make your listing better in my opinion.

The description is irrelevant if you're a bot, or frankly if you're a buyer. The TITLE says Star Sapphire even if it isn't supposed to be read that way.

In your title it says" gold moon star sapphire". That is a somewhat ambiguous statement relative to a star sapphire and the bots will also pick up on it. It is not a matter of common sense it is a matter of semantics and your wording was ambiguous as it is unclear whether the word star refers to the sapphire or relates elsewhere in the clause. You made the common mistake of assuming that the reader knows what you know. Just trying to help here.
