EBAY FEES

I HAVE BEEN SELLING ON EBAY FOR OVER 15 YEARS. ALTHOUGH IT WAS GREAT FOR MANY OF THOSE YEARS, NOW IT IS ALMOST COMPLETELY INPOSSIBLE TO SELL ANYTHING, SAY I AND EVERY OTHER SELLER I SPEAK TO. EVERY MONTH MY INVOICE CHARGES GET HIGHER   AND NOW EBAY IS CHARGES A FINAL VALUE FEE ON "SHIPPING CHARGES".  SINCE MY BUYERS ARE THE ONES PAYING FOR THE SHIPPING CHARGES, AND I AM THE ONE GOING TO THE POST OFFICE TO MAIL THE PACKAGES, I DO NOT KNOW HOW EBAY CAN VALIDATE THIS CHARGE EXCEPT IT IS JUST ANOTHER WAY FOR THEM TO MAKE MORE MONEY THROUGH BUYERS. SINCE THE SEWWLLERSA ARE THE ONES MAKING MON EY FOR THEM BYN LISTING OUR ITEMS I CAN NEVER UN DERSTAND WHY THEY CHARGE US MORE AND MORE AND WHEN A PROBLEM ARISES, THEY HAVE A HABIT OF ALWAYS SIDING WITH  THE SELLERS.  CAN NO ONE AT EBAY EXPLAIN / VALIDATE THE REASON FOR THIS CRAZY FEE???

I don't see how they were "punishing most sellers" when it was revenue neutral. The people who came out of it the worst were the people selling heavy stuff cross country and the fee avoiders.

Maybe people shouldn't be selling heavy things cross country?

Again, people are focusing on the additional fees and COMPLETELY ignoring the stuff they started getting in compensation.

There was NO punishing. Most sellers came out paying the same amount before and after.

@the*dog*ate*my*tablecloth Good point on coast to coast shipping heavy stuff, also just about anything coast to coast.  I used to get concerned here on the east coast with the cost to ship west but I had several west coast buyers state that a lot of the good stuff was back east.  True, the east coast developed a lot sooner then the west coast so there is more vintage stuff here.  So I guess on a certain level they expect to pay more.  So "IF" I offer Free Shipping on something I have to calculate the highest shipping cost (i.e. furtherest distance) to add to the sale price.

Re: EBAY FEES

Well, OP, I reckon you could sell via an auction house, pay 20% and deliver it or ship it, or pay 30% and have them pick it up (real world example ATL GA 5/26/16).

@mr_lincoln - I use Blaine, WA when I calculate "free" shipping.

eBay should target the sellers that abused it and not punish ALL sellers.

Easy to say, but I've never yet read a easy way they could determine who was abusing it........a book can weigh 3 oz or 15 #.   If they used the cost we actually pay for the labels to determine it.......sellers would just buy labels elsewhere........

All,

Eliminating fee avoidance by sellers was only part of the reason for adding the FVF on shipping.

eBay made a HUGE push to get sellers to offer Free Shipping, but a seller with a $100 item with free shipping paid 33% more in fees than an seller with a $75 item and $25 shipping.

A major reason for the FVF on shipping was to encourage Free Shipping by eliminating the financial penalty for sellers who offered Free Shipping.

Unlucky

  • I do not know of you have a store or not and I also do not know how many items you list per month but if you do not have a store the first 50 items are free to list.  If you list considerable more than 50 per month than maybe a store subscription would save you money?
  • When you say now eBay charges for a FVF on shipping charges.  They started this back in July of 2011 which is a full 6 years ago so it is not something new that a seasoned sellers (15 years a seller) like yourself should not have known about.  The FVF on shipping is part of your shipping cost and you like every other seller on eBay should be including that cost into the amount you charge for shipping.  Postage is not the only cost to Shipping.
  • The FVF on shipping helps to level the playing field so sellers can not offer a 1.00 item with 49.00 shipping and by pass the item FVF by padding all the cost into the shipping.  It also creates a better buying experience for the buyers because more seller now just offer free shipping with all the cost in one.  This makes it much easier for a potential buyer to know the cost without a lot of searching and they can make a decision to buy quicker.
  • Lastly the eBay selling fees have not gone up in recent years.  In fact they offer free insertions all the time as well as give you an allotted amount of free insertions regardless in you have a store or not.  Both types of sellers get free insertions, so I do not understand how you can say the rising fees?
  • eBay siding with sellers Buyers.  eBay has refined the process so now only a item as described or Item not received have any affect on your account and both of those instances are in the sellers control.

What exactly did you think was suppose to happen on the eBay platform?

Good Luck Selling!

I wonder if OP knows her store is still open. Nothing listed on her account for at least 3 months (nothing in completeds). No feedback for over 3 months. Even if she was on a annual plan, it would have been cheaper to cancel it than let it ride...

Wrong ! All a buyer has to do is say something's wrong and ebay sides with them. Seller has ZERO control. And to really add insult to injury, if you don't instantly refund, then it becomes an arbitration thing and when ebay rules against you (and they will), you not only have to refund total price (so you lose the original s/h), you also have to pay for return shipping, AND ebay keeps the fvf.

Re: EBAY FEES

The influx of china on here has made it almost impossible to compete. ebay doesn't care about the U.S. sellers.
