E Check Bounced

I sold a dress on 5/25 and buyer paid with an E Check. E Check bounced once already and payment  is still pending.

How long do I have to wait to get paid?

When will paypal try to put it through again?

Pretty ridiculous that once the payment bounces that the transaction at that point isn't done and you can move on and relist

E Check Bounced

I currently have two echecks that bounced the first time through......email from paypal said they would attempt to redraft 3 days later, but the payments in my paypal account show they won't clear until June 13th, and to not ship until then. I have contacted the buyer the moment it happen and they explain that they would clear now and that it had already been pulled from their account, these payment originally were made on 5/25. I received an email from them yesterday asking me when I was going to ship their purchases, I said that the payments still had not cleared and I was not cleared to ship the items yet, they responded thats weird, I sent them screenshots showing that the items are still pending in my account.

You should be able to open an unpaid item case now. Try it and pray that function isn't glitching up today too.

E Check Bounced

E-Check's are just like real paper checks, they take time to clear and it depends if the buyer has funds for it. With the recent holiday, that may explain the bounced check. I haven't received one in a long time, but if I remember right, they try 3 times to get the money and then then send it back to the buyer if it doesn't clear. I doubt you'll be able to open a UPI case, but it never hurts to try. Depending on the item, a potential buyer in hand is worth 2 in the bush.

I am not able to open an unpaid item case yet. I contacted the buyer to let them know it is still uncleared, even though I know paypal notifies them.

It is just frustrating to have an item, that is popular with buyers , tied up because a buyer does not have the funds to be buying things

If the check bounces again, PayPal will notify you that the payment has been cancelled.

I do not know if it is still available on paypal, but, there was a time when the seller could cancel the echeck on paypal. i would go see if it was available and cancel it.

Why can't you?  I've done it before.  Certainly something may have changed, but an echeck that has not yet cleared is NOT payment.  Ebay doesn't record it as a payment until the echeck clears, so you should be able to open a UID.

My personal policy on this is if I get a bounced echeck, I immediately open a UID 99.9% of the time.  I say that because once I had a buyer notify me of a particular problem they were having.  I believed her and I gave her a little more time.  She came through and became a repeat customer without further issue.  But normally I open the UID and chances are pretty good that you will be able to close the UID before the re-deposit of the echeck happens.  I then block the buyer and go into PP and cancel the echeck.

The buyer can't leave any FB on my account and I just move on.  This process has worked for me all the years I've been on Ebay.

Good Luck.

You are right, I was able to open an unpaid item case. So now I wait for that to time out.

I do see that I can cancel her echeck in paypal, if I do that there are no consequences and I can relist the item?

I have already blocked her.

Great.  Now do not do any type of communication with your buyer unless they contact you first.  And then be very careful and professional in your reponse.  If you need assistance if this happens, then just come on back and ask.  There are some great sellers that are on the boards at various times of the day.  Some will certainly be able to assist you.

DON'T cancel the check yet.  Wait until you can close the UID and AFTER you close the UID, then cancel the echeck in PP.  Make sure you wrote down the date and TIME you opened the UID.  You will be able to close it when it is 96 hours old without payment.  So if you opened it the 4th at 1:00PM, you can close it on the 8th at 1:01PM or thereabouts.  Once you get that UID closed, it will protect you from getting any FB from this buyer.  So it is always in the best interest of a seller to close them as quickly as possible.

NO do not relist the item yet.  You need to allow the UID to run its course.  Once you have the UID closed for non payment, then and ONLY then should you relist the item.  To list it sooner than that is very risky and can hurt your account.  You never know if that buyer will come through with a payment before the UID closes and if that happened and you had relisted the item, you could potentially sell the item to two different buyers.  And no good can come from that.  ALWAYS wait to relist until after you have COMPLETED your transaction with any given buyer.   It is only complete if it is paid for, a closed UID for non payment or the transaction was cancelled.  But don't cancel transactions like this as it will give you a defect on your account.
