When did ebay have to start getting other people to do their work?
I thaught I was paying ebay to sell my items! I post interesting and unique stuff and only get three or four looks at my items!
I post same item with the (promotion) and it sells quickly but cost me over a third of the money in fees for both ebay and promotion sponsor.
Why am I selling on ebay, sounds like their sponsors should have their own site to sell your stuff. Why can't ebay promote my listing, isn't that what I pay them for?
Why has ebay gotten this bad?

To be fair, 99% *is* a little outrageous and I'm a bit curious, too.

Same here. I have seen some of the examples but never a viable one. I would like to see the number on a $200 item with free shipping, which 75% of the listings have, and sold to a buyer in a state with 8% sales tax.

The question really is multi-faceted and bullet point:

Really?? @chapeau-noir
What you are questioning is a point of absurdity I made in response to an absurd statement made by luckytherwinner as shown below:

I see users like sohmaryl and mam pulling words out of context quite often here, creating needless confusion and twisted, irrelevant points - But you haven't been lost to the dark side too have you?? say it isn't so chapeau-noir!

That I will agree with. Even though Ebay takes around 23% of your selling cost there is no way they would take 99%. 😀

Well, there's your mistake. You are not paying eBay to sell your items. You are paying eBay for a place to sell your items, similar to renting a booth at a mall or a space at a flea market.
It's up to you, then, to actually sell the items. That means you must know your market, offer what people want at prices they will pay, write good titles and descriptions, provide clear and useful photographs, perhaps buy some additional advertising if you're selling in a packed field, and so on.

@isaiah53-57 I just found the argument very odd.

Still waiting to see how you get the 23% using a realistic example. I.E. Sale of a $200 item with free shipping, which 75% of the listings have, not using PL, and sold to a buyer in a state with 8% sales tax.

I wonder if people are confusing selling costs with eBay fees.
I buy my labels on pirateship so my performance tab reports eBay fees and selling costs at 14%.

A lot of sellers lump the shipping cost in with the eBay fees although most sellers use free shipping and bake the cost of the shipping, and the fees on the shipping into their listing price. It skews a lot of sellers calculations and eBay doesn't help any by lumping the shipping costs into the percentage they show on the seller hub. Like you my eBay fees which is all that shows on my seller hub runs between 14-15%.
Like you I don't buy my labels off eBay but use Pirate Ship which has about the same discounted rates as eBay but offers some other classes. I also charge the labels to my cash back CC so it's a bigger win by using Pirate Ship.

I sure don't. We pay approximately 14% in fees total. Granted, we're TRS, so those who are not would pay a little more, but nowhere near 22-26% unless you've been penalized for being Below Standard.
