Double VAT

Hey,

I am a reseller on EBAY in the UK.
When i sell items, it looks like VAT is getting added to the listing. The is a mistake, since i already payed for VAT on the item

Does anyone know how to fix?

Hi @shoppendk

You’re posting your question on the eBay US site, where we don’t do VAT the same as you do.

I recommend you ask your question on the eBay UK Community:  www.ebay.co.uk/

They will be more knowledgeable on that subject.  🙂

@shoppendk,

Here's a link to the help page about VAT requirements for UK sellers:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/taxes-import-charges?id=4121

That should explain how to set your prices.

Double VAT

You may have paid sales tax on the original purchase but now it's the buyer's turn.  Think of it as an ownship tax, that's the way most governments run.

VAT is "Value Added Tax".

It is charged every time the item changes hands.

The wholesaler paid VAT to the manufacturer.

The retailer paid VAT to the wholesaler.

You paid VAT to the retailer.

Your buyer pays VAT to you*.

And all those payments are sent to the appropriate government.

VAT here in Canada is called a Goods and Services Tax, which makes it clearer that it can be both the item and making the item available that are being taxed.

*Well, to eBay who deal with it and charge you a service fee.

Does NOT matter if you paid tax when you bought it, the NEW buyer now gets to pay tax on the (presumably) higher NEW Price since THAT buyer is now someone new.

No different than USA Sales Tax, almost ALL Items are taxed EVERY TIME THEY SELL.

You might have paid it when you bought the item, now it's the new buyers time to pay it.

Have A Great Day.
