Done with eBay

Sold on eBay for around 5 years. I'm done with being scammed by buyers. Done with eBay's policy of always supporting the buyer, no help for sellers. I have had buyers return their old part (easily verified with pictures) and say it was the part I sold them.  Happened more than once. I've been scammed several times in many different ways.  And eBay won't even talk to you.  Ebay just not worth the trouble anymore. Guess my leaving eBay won't hurt the billionaire owners too much but at least I don't have to contribute to their obscene pile of money any longer.

eBay is a publicly traded company that is listed on NASDAQ and is part of the S&P 500. There are millions of people with money in retirement funds and stock portfolios who are in some sense "owners" of eBay.

@ib_tooler

Sorry for your experience.  eBay isn't for everyone.

Best of luck in the future

Some of us can make ebay work for them ... some of us can't.

Good luck to you.

Re: Done with eBay

I agree that eBay must work for lots of people. If you are able to factor in the huge amount of scammers on eBay to your pricing and profitability then so be it. I was just a small seller trying to unload leftover stock from a business I closed. But when I end up having to pay to ship an item both directions for a scammer to get his item for free even though it's not a huge loss for me money wise I just can't stomach being screwed by these dishonest jerks. It's not the money it's the principle. I was always honest about every transaction that I made on eBay. It's a shame that so many people take advantage of others.

I'm really sorry this has happened to you.

People can be just horrible.

Have you tried reaching out to talk to a live eBay employee through social media?
Someone here usually posts those links.

Re: Done with eBay

I have a comment on the negative on your account, which may or may not be the "last straw" of why you are upset.

Your buyer said he did not receive the part and probably filed a "item not received" claim.  If you shipped the part with tracking, did you check to see if the tracking showed the package was delivered?  If so, all you had to do was enter the tracking number into the claim and eBay would have sided with you.   If it showed delivered and the buyer still says he didn't get it, it could have been picked up by someone else: a family member, a neighbor, a porch pirate but you are still covered.  If you did nothing in response to his claim and didn't put in the tracking number, then eBay took the money back from you and gave the buyer a refund.

If the package actually was lost in the system, you should have filed a missing package report with the post office to see if they could locate it.   Sometimes a missing package report stirs things up and they find the package, sometimes not.   If it is not located, you can follow through with a lost package claim.

You said it is "not your fault" that the post office lost the package, but as a seller, you are responsible for the package until it is delivered to the buyer's address.  Even if the post office lost the package, it is still your responsibility to make the buyer whole (refund his money) and follow through to file a lost package insurance claim.

Perhaps if you could give us a little more detail about what happened we could make some recommendations.

For example - if this is about that Neg you received for a package that the USPS apparently lost - you can at least get refunded by them for the shipment that they lost.

I have no idea how many scammers are on eBay, but they do not seem to be equally distributed among sellers. Some of us simply do not encounter scams, so there really is nothing to factor in.

Re: Done with eBay

For those that believe the post office will whilly nilly pay off insurance claims because they lost

an item are sorely naive.

The post office just like ebay will fight you and double down on you even if you did nothing wrong.

Bottomline is these companies do not like to pay out insurance money.

It has happened to me and people I know where they will not pay out.

And there is nothing you can do once they have made up their mind.

Sometimes it just depends on which employee you get and sometimes they do the

right thing, but other times, it doesn't matter, you have been scammed and there is nothing

you can do.  It's the world we live in.  Even crocked postal carriers that want to steal packages

know the loophole.  The carrier inputs that the package is delivered when it's not, and the carrier steals it.

The package just dissappears out of thin air, when it's really stolen by the carrier.

But the system says you have received it.   You are screwed if this happens.

Some of these postal carriers are probably working with friends so they can

unload these stolen boxes along their route.  They can't do this type of heist on their own.

If package tracking shows NOT being delivered- then they pay. You have to wait 3 weeks-then file.

Nothing has changed there.

You've sold 1 item in 90 days; not much to go on.

I was gonna say kind of the same thing.

My scammer percentage is soooooo low.

I loosely calculated less than 1/2 a percent.

I wonder why the OP would  encounter so many scammers?

I currently have a claim going with the USPS for a lost Ground Advantage package.

I could see them disputing a damage claim, but how/why on earth would they dispute a lost package claim?

Re: Done with eBay

@inhawaii

The reason OP has encountered more scammers is probably due to selling in the high risk category of appliance parts. It's an old scam to trade the old broken part for the new one, and I've heard similar complaints from sellers of car parts and computer parts, as well.

Certain goods open sellers up to greater risk.
