Does Adding UPC Boost Sales?

Hi Everyone,

Does adding the UPC to listings, change your sales at all?

Or....I even read where listings aren't visible in Google searches if the UPC isn't included.

I appreciate any and all advise and/or answers.

@itccosmetics I personally try to list any and all information that I have on an item I am trying to sell including the UPC if I have it, even on used items. From what I understand Google rejects ads without a brand name and a GTIN (UPC) so I would go ahead and agree with @dhbookds that it couldn't hurt 🙂

Hope this helps!

Include as many attributes as you can.  Each of them will help you show up in refined searches for the exact same items.  Because of that you will have more opportunities to be included in refined search that only seller who supply the attributes will be part of.  This is also the path that eBay is directing buyer down, so yes include them if you have them.

As far as Google search, It is a bit more complicated than what you described.  For the generic google search that 95% of all google searches are conducted from,  you will show up regardless if you use them or not.  They are not required for the generic search.

Good Luck Selling!

To be somewhat candid, this is one of the best questions I have seen in a VERY LONG time, and I do NOT claim to have the answer. I cannot wait to see the answers. As others have said, it may help your items come up in a search.

@itccosmetics I would highly recommend that you include the UPC whenever available.

eBay is building rich new buying experiences that depend on sellers providing UPCs and as many aspects as possible.

When you provide this information your listings will show up in these new experiences.

e.g. your listing for Clinique Foaming Soap :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/172809013167

currently doesn't show up on the Clinique Foaming Soap product page:

https://www.ebay.com/p/clinique-foaming-sonic-facial-soap/691132882

But if you provide the UPC, then your listing will show up in these new experiences.

Depending on how old the used item is, the UPC could point to a completely different item now. UPC's can be recycled 3 years after inactivation.

I would never use them on used items(well, I don't sell anything with a UPC anyway).

syedmhaq so you're saying if a seller doesn't enter the bar code the listings will not be shown to buyers? By title 237 items,by bar code 33 items so 204 listings are being paid for to be advertised, but aren't being shown to the buying public?

dk the newest trend I'm seeing here in nowhere USA the cellphoners are snapping pictures of barcodes at the retailers listing the merchandise marked up 30% and letting the retailers carry the inventory. They only purchase it when they have a sale... Kind of a cool idea, but sales are pretty skimpy....

Nothing I search for here has ever had a barcode, so it's useless to me.
