Determining Price Gouging

Who is determining what amount an item is selling for is price gouging? And who determines the products that are essential? I've just had kids multi vitamins listings, elderberry, and vitamin C listings taken down due to a price gouging policy? I've sold many and have all positive feedbacks from buyers.  Besides competitors and random users using the price gouging report option, who sits determining what is too much to sell an item for? Sellers are selling the same items for double the amount.. I just dont agree with this. I sell on Ebay to try and make extra money. I dont sell on ebay to lose m ok ney or break even..

First off, don't make assumptions that you know me or where I get my products. 

Secondly, I live in an area where luckily we have been almost spared. So our SHELVES aren't empty nor are ppl rushing to get them. There was a little panic at first but it quickly died down. So through sourcing different avenues online and local I was able to NOT RAID SHELVES TO FILL MY POCKETS UP WITH MONEY. Again read my feedback from ppl thanking me for one stop shopping. Again want vs need are 2 DIFFERENT THINGS.

You see YOU and ppl like YOU think everything is cookie cutter design and CAN'T think for yourself or out of the box.  

Again the bigger picture is eBays profits but not once has any of the opposition addressed this issue. If ebay was seriously that concerned they should donate those profits on such grossly over priced items to a COVID 19 Charity.

When you use the application from your phone ebay populates the price by using recently SOLD similar items. This is a fact!! Try it yourself.

It actually auto populates the dang price. Why on earth would 2 ppl lie about this??? Again go grab a newer phone with updated ebay app and see for yourself

You are ignoring the simple question of what ebay is doing with the multi millions of revenue generated from grossly exaggerated prices?? oh you know what?? We can't tell because ebay DELETES THESE AFTER THE SALE SO NO ONE CAN SEE AND ASK QUESTIONS!!

I know because I have had 2 sales that were reported but they has already sold. I could only print mailing label, could not view transaction at all and the listing is completely gone.

So no one will ever know how much ebay REALLY made off of any item that was reported for PG, whether it was truly PG or not. They have been completely wiped from their system the public listing. Now don't you find that very odd???

And here are screenshots I took when I was listing dish soap and it has ebays suggestions. And when you initially click on price it from the app it IS auto populated if it is something ebay can determine a price point on, example being if you use upc code or ebay can recognize the listing by title and match up to others like it.

I think what you are talking about when Ebay cancels a transaction AFTER the sale for one reason or another.  If this isn't something that has repeatedly happened to the seller, the seller is refunded fees as stated in the email received by the seller.  So NO Ebay isn't making "multi millions" off these transactions that they cancel.

Just because a member reports a listing does not in itself cause a listing to be closed or a sale cancelled.  Ebay is the only one that determines if the seller has breach a policy or rule.  No one else.  Just Ebay.  So even when someone reports your listing, there should be no concern of removal if your listing is within the policy and rules of Ebay.

And yes, a buyer and seller can complete the transaction after Ebay has cancelled it and refunded the Ebay fees to the seller.  True you won't be able to see the transaction on Ebay any longer but you can still complete the transaction.

I get it, you want to sell more of these items that Ebay is not allowing you to sell.  Having your listing set up to donate a portion to a charity still doesn't absolve you of the outrageous and illegal prices.

Sas3177, there are people on here that are only looking for someone to argue with.  It’s only worth engaging with those that are sharing info and facts to alert others of an issue that are here seeking information/guidance.  The ones that it doesn’t apply to are looking to argue, debate and have someone engage in it with them.  There is no need to provide them any facts because they aren’t reading anything other than to find an argument.  In this case, tell sellers what items they should sell and buyers how much they should spend...based on nothing other than their feeling it is their place to do and speak.  It’s an issue and Ebay has caused it.  If Ebay didn’t allow it, it wouldn’t be a problem.  But, they are doing so to make money.  The folks that want to debate have no interest in the issue as evidenced by continuing to ramble about what Ebay has told them in their website policy vs. what ebay is actually doing.  As you can see, when you tried to explain or provide facts of which you are speaking, they continue to tell you that it and you are wrong, as if that is any point of the information shared.  Thank you for sharing the info with other buyers and sellers to they are aware of the actual issue.

People like me don't try to take advantage of the situation.

Myself, I'd rather leave the items in the stores so people can buy them when they need them and not have to buy them from people that are price gouging and selling banned items.

I’m unsure of why you ask for information and when they do a courtesy of providing, you continue trying to engage them into a debate about it. Take the info for what it is. Or more importantly, ignore it since clearly you don’t want it. No one has asked for your advice or your interpretation of ebay’s policies. This is a post to share i information that someone else may find useful. Clearly you do not. So, I’m also unsure why you make yourself part of it. I’m sure there are other forums for debating or sharing your opinions of what others should be doing with their belongings, how you do things, or since someone doesn’t see as you, they are wrong. It’s not this one. Hopefully of you have useful information to share, you will do so. Otherwise, allow others to use this forum as a way to help and inform each other. Thanks.
