Customers Are Crooks

I've been doing this for a few years now and customers never cease to amaze me with the things they do to try and get stuff free or to hurt honest sellers in any way they can. Today's nominee?

A customer has filed a payment dispute with their bank claiming they 'did not recognize the transaction' for a $345 police scanner that they bought in FEBRUARY. Yes you read that correctly. FEBRUARY! Over 8 months ago.

The ebay transaction receipt for this particular order clearly states the item was delivered the following month on March 7th.

How are customers allowed to get away with this stuff? 8 months later? Why don't banks have time limits on this kind of stuff? You shouldn't be able to file this kind of stuff so far down the road. This person obviously received the item or else they would have contacted me when they didn't receive something they paid over $300 for. Such a scam and it's sad that banks and ebay allow them to file these claims so far down the road.

Obviously someone trying to work the system in hopes of getting some spending money for Christmas. This takes the cake from another customer who asked me to send pictures of a solo in a guitar tab book so they could learn to play the solo without having to buy the book.

I had a buyer file a "didn't recognize transaction" almost 3 years after he purchased the item in March 2020. Paypal let his bank win the dispute. I closed my account with Paypal after that. Maybe if we drop the companies that allow this, they will get the message.

Credit card chargebacks are one of the ultimate and most successful scams that online thieves are exploiting, with the complicity of their cc institution.

This is one reason why many of us seasoned sellers say that you should NEVER  list online any high-value item that you and your business model are not prepared to lose, along with your payment for it on a forced buyer refund over which you have no control. It is up to the seller to determine that value over which the item should be sold locally for cash instead.

This will hold true until eBay gets their act together and confronts this and other types of fraud by increasing Seller Protections that really mean something.

Cheers, Duffy

You have to vet your buyers now. List expensive things “local pickup only”, shipping possible. Email for quote.

my quick question is why the O.P. has this gold ribbon logo that I have never seen before?

'eBay Top rated plus logo' on various listings, but not all listings.

@discountdenimdeals

Unfortunately it's learned behavior.  YouTube videos on how to get stuff for free on ebay, word of mouth, posts here on the forum all spell it out clearly.

The people who participate in this act of theft clearly don't have an ounce of decency.  This sickness of entitlement is being displayed all across America in B&M stores and on e- commerce.

I understand you probably feel very violated and you were. There has to be consequences for all of the above that I mentioned but until that happens it's CYA.

Really unusual for a card company to allow this chargeback after this amount of time, uploading tracking to prove they received the item should be enough to win this case.

I think USPS tracking is only viewable for 6 months.

Yeah I don't list items of this value regularly. I just happened to have these and was no longer using them so I got rid of them. I will not be continuing with eBay if I have to pay this back. I do this as a hobby and therapy to help treat my anxiety and insomnia.  It gives me something to do since I'm retired due to military injuries which occupies my mind and helps with anxiety. And doing this also keeps me busy during the day which makes me tired and helps battle my insomnia at night. And then I get treated like this from crooks trying to overwork the system. I'm a single disabled parent of two. Just trying to make some extra pocket change and ebay allows me to be treated this way. Just sad.

Do any tracking records remain online that long though? I'd thought they go *poof* after a month maybe.

I've already tried using the USPS tracking service and it's so old it doesn't show up. The only proof I have is on the eBay transaction receipt which clearly states it was delivered. I submitted a screenshot of that in my response to the claim.

Oh, sorry. I use Au Post and a courier service here and I get POD emailed to me for every delivery and keep it on file, sorry OP.

I agree with your complaint.  I would like the option to block buyers that are deceitful, that lie, and manipulate the seller.  Right now, I'm waiting for that option to be put in place.
