I had a case open recently where the item didn't arrive as it was arriving late to Miami.
The weird thing is the customer opened a dispute for refund as soon as it said arriving late.
Regardless I contacted customer support on ebay twice
That was from the second time after i checked again just to make sure.
I dont even care about refunding i would have done that if they told me that.
The problem is the lies from the customer support resulted in CASE CLOSED WITHOUT SELLER RESOLUTION and a Defect.
I dont think i should get a defect based on the lie customer service told me how to handle the situation.
There is a chat log of this happened as it was through the customer service chat not on the phone.

If the item doesn't arrive on the date...one day after...in the item for sale...it is considered item not received.
You should have refunded the buyer the day before the claim escalated to eBay.
Customer service(phone reps) went out the door years ago...nothing new.
I guess buyer got a refund...and a free item?

My post is missing all the key information because it was edited by EBay for copy and paste eBay chat log. So it doesn’t even make complete sense. If I could have deleted the whole topic I would as it’s pointless without the other info

You learned the hard way to always respond to the case and not get Ebay involved. When that happens, Ebay will always rule in favor of the buyer and refund, and closing the case without seller resolution.

Your mistake was getting Ebay involved.
When the buyer filed the INR, all you had to do was respond to the case and upload the tracking number.
When you get Ebay involved in a return/refund, it never goes good for the seller.

That is the big issue with customer support these days they will tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone even if that means lying to you. The down side as you note is you are hit with a defect, the buyer is fully refunded and allowed to keep their item and you are still hit with the eBay fees.
What is the Miami address is this by chance one of the freight forwarders? Seems like the Miami are is having some major issues these days. May want to file a report with the USPS OIG.
