Coupon question

If I print a "20% off" coupon and send it with an order ... and at the same time I am having a sale of 20% off storewide .... will that coupon allow a discount of 40%?

------------

Funny story to go along with the above question:

I was at the airport in San Francisco waiting for a connection.

Within sight was a store that sold neckties.   I used and owned a LOT of neckties and took pride in finding unique ones.

They had a great selection of fine silk, vivid colors ... they weren't cheap so I limited my purchase to three.

I took them up to the cute Barbie at the cash register and she rang them up and told me the  total.   It didn't sound right to me so I questioned   "Oh," she says cheerfully "we are having a ten percent off sale and you got three of them so that's thirty percent off."

I looked at her in amazement, and gave her my charge card.

I told my wife later and she said, "You should have gotten ten of them ... or twenty."

I bet the boss was NOT happy when the cash register was z'd out.

So, do our coupons work the same way?

Technically it would be more like ... 36%? And the answer is yes, they will stack.

20% off $100 comes out to $80

20% off $80 comes out to $64

-----------

Order Discounts:

  • will stack with sale events (markdowns)
  • will stack with shipping discounts
  • will not stack with offers
  • will not stack with coupons (system will apply whichever discount is greater between the two)
  • will not stack with volume discounts (system will apply whichever discount is greater between the two)
  • will not stack with other order discounts (system will apply whichever discount is greater between multiple order discounts on the same listing)

Sale Events (Markdowns):

  • will stack with order discounts
  • will stack with shipping discounts
  • will stack with volume discounts
  • will stack with coupons
  • will not stack with offers (offer takes precedence). Exception is seller initiated offers sent after a sale event is already in effect; in that case the offer will be taken off the sale price, not the initial price.

Shipping Discounts:

  • will stack with order discounts
  • will stack with sale events (markdowns)
  • will stack with volume discounts
  • will stack with coupons
  • will not stack with offers

Volume Discounts:

  • will stack with shipping discounts
  • will stack with sale events (markdowns)
  • will not stack with offers (offer takes precedence)
  • will not stack with order discounts (system will apply whichever discount is greater between the two)
  • will not stack with coupons (system will apply whichever discount is greater between the two)

Coupons:

  • will not stack with order discounts (system will apply whichever discount is greater between the two)
  • will stack with sale events (markdowns)
  • will stack with shipping discounts
  • will not stack with volume pricing (system will apply whichever discount is greater between the two)
  • will not stack with offers (offer takes precedence)
  • will not stack with other coupons

Coupons yes.  Offers no.  That's why I always do offers.  They either accept the offer I sent them OR they get any sale if I happen to be running one.   That's one of the main reasons I love SIO's.

Ya know, I remember that lass.

She was fresh-faced, with light red hair and green eyes.

About 5'7", 130 lbs.

Looked to be early 20's.

I don't know what job she had after this one, but I bet she started looking ... like, the next day.

Coupon question

As a San Franciscan resident we do have a lot of 'Barbies' who actually work for fun and are kept you know what as.

And you don't do anything 'promoted'?

Off the subject...but I have my dad's neckties which are the skinny ones and I really don't prefer the fat ones.

Not sure how the fat ones came into being unless it's because we got fatter?

Yea, mine are the wider ones, paisley was in then.  I don't have many left, but I bet the ones I had are worth some money now.

Hey thanks to all who offered their opinion/advice.

I have come to the conclusion that nagging for feedback is not a good idea.

Cheers

This is the best breakdown of the discount system I've ever seen!  I printed it out so I have a reference when I forget how they work.  Ebay should put this in their Help section.   I mainly stick with coupons because they don't work with offers.  This will come in handy in the future.   As always, you rock!
