Checkout and Payment Issue

A buyer messaged me two hours ago to tell me he had paid. But there's nothing in my Paypal account from him, and it's showing on eBay as "awaiting payment".

I responded to the buyer to please double check because I hadn't received the payment. He tells me that it's showing in "my eBay" as "Paid" but "Pending". He's not sure why it's pending, I don't know either. Can someone enlighten me on this?

I don't want to contact the buyer again about it unless I learn something that will help him fix whatever is causing me not to be paid. When I go to see the "Order Details" in "my eBay" it shows Checkout as "incomplete". I don't have any other unpaid items to compare, but the paid ones show a date the checkout was completed.

Help please?

C.

Re: Checkout and Payment Issue

Did you happen to change your PayPal account email?

It happened to me when I changed emails.  I mistakenly used my old address in the listing.

No, I made these listings from a template in SixBit and they were part of a series of similar things. Everyone else was able to pay for their items except this one buyer. I've had the same email address since 1997, and same Paypal account since whenever Paypal started to be mainstream (2001??) So the only thing I can think of is if my Paypal email was stripped from my listings.

I got emails last night from a buyer about some French tokens, and the photos of the reverse on several of them have all disappeared, but I listed them over a year ago, and I did list both front and back photos.

Cheers, C.

Re: Checkout and Payment Issue

I just did "sell similar" on all the items. My Paypal email was correct in every one.

Still don't know why the buyer can't complete the checkout...

Re: Checkout and Payment Issue

Possibly he paid with his bank balance, so it is an e-check.  Other than that, call Paypal and ask them to look into it.

Re: Checkout and Payment Issue

I've had it happen twice. Once was an e-check.

The other was a Global Shipping purchase. There was a glitch in the system (imagine that) because the payment kept changing from pending to paid when I refreshed. But Paypal showed paid.

He said it was Amex, not an eCheck (bank balance). I don't know if Amex has any rules where things are pending for a while before the seller receives payment... Amex is not a big thing in Canada.

When I log into Paypal I see nothing at all, and he sees pending (as the payment hasn't occurred yet on his end, but he can't pay again because eBay says it's been paid but pending).

On hold with eBay now for probably 45 minutes until I speak with someone. I'm hoping they can see what's going on. Since there's nothing in my Paypal account at all, I don't see how Paypal will help. Brian posted that Paypal had some problems this afternoon (which was when this payment was made), so it might be resolved in time, but since I want my customer to get his tokens ASAP, I'm going to do what I can to resolve this right away.

Re: Checkout and Payment Issue

Not sure if PP allows stored credit cards, but this happens on the big A from time to time when people use a stored cc which has an expired date or incorrect three digit number. Just a thought.

I have the answer... the payment was denied, no back up funding (it was a credit card, but the cardholder denied it). He said he didn't have any other problems making payments today. I told him to contact his credit card company to resolve it.

Now I know for future reference what to do if this happens again. And Paypal could see the attempt to pay me, but it doesn't show when I log in.

Cheers, C.

The last (only?) time that happened to me, I could see the denied payment in PayPal ... it never made it to eBay. The buyer never contacted me (and they didn't try again with a different payment method) so I have no idea what it looked like on their end 😉

Don't always believe what Paypal tells you. It may be true and it may not be.

I have had a credit card that I have had for 50 years declined through Paypal. I have had Paypal since day 1 and use multiple credit cards and bank accounts.

Paypal denied one of my credit card transactions because they detected a fraudulant transaction on my card, removed the card from Paypal and did not even tell me. The excuse they used is they were trying to catch the fraudster, yea right.

I have had my 50 year credit card deny transactions because their internal fraud was triggered and it was denied, they did not tell me either.

Like Ebay, they will tell you what they want to get you off the phone.

Since Paypal could see the transaction, I know something happened and the customer did send it, but it didn't reach me. I suggested to him that he investigate at his end. whatever reason for me not getting it is not something I can do anything about, but it seems good that I spoke with Paypal. It was a 45 minute wait for an eBay rep and I called Paypal while waiting just to find out if they could even see the transaction.

Anyway my buyer is on the east coast, and this was resolved late in the day, he's probably gone home since he is a B&M store. I suppose we'll fix this tomorrow.

Cheers, C.
