I am going on vacation and I really want to keep my listings up if possible. I've looked online for instructions, and I can't find the vacation mode that is mentioned in a lot of the instructions.
Do I need to have a subscription account just to be able to utilize the vacation function?

No problem many have posted and said they might open the starter store on monthly to get them through vacation time & avoid cancelling all their free listings so to many it's a good monthly option
Just wanted OP to be aware they didn't need to fork out 27.95 for the month for Basic .

The vacation settings are available only to sellers who have a Store subscription. Since you don't have a Store, your choices are: (1) sign up for a store subscription; (2) end all your listings, then relist when you return; or (3) revise your handling time to reflect your actual anticipated shipping date.

You have to have a Basic Store or higher to be able to use the vaca setting.

You have to pay for it here and buy a store.

If you don't want to sell items then you need to mark 'Keep people from buying...'. If you don't do it then buyers can see your listings and buy them.

I don't have a store so i don't have access to the vacation mode.
True story.
The last few vacations i went on, at the top of all my listings, in big, bold, red lettering, i added something similar to this:
NOTICE! I will be on vacation from xxxxx to xxxxx. Please do not purchase this item until after xxxxx. Sorry for the inconvenience.
People just don't know how to read or follow instructions. I sold more in that week than i ever did!
Fortunately along with that note, i also adjusted my handling time so i could fulfill my orders when i got back.
I even posted about it. Sure fire way to increase sales: Ask people NOT TO BUY! LOL

That is a pretty dangerous thing to do. While you protected your shipping stats by extending your handling time, you are lucky that your feedback didn't get damaged by some of the buyers that didn't read the note or notice the extended handling time.

I would urge you to rethink this.
My main question is - why do you want to keep your listings up?
If it's because you want people to be able to see your listings while you're on vacation - a store isn't going to be much help to you because there is no vacation setting that lets people look but not buy. (although if that's changed recently, I'd caution you that buyers who can see but not buy seldom return)
If you want your listings to remain visible, you're going to have the exact same risk that someone will buy from your while you're unable to fill the order.
On the other hand if it's because you don't want to incur relist charges for listings you end and then restart and you're planning to return before the end of April, you don't seem to have that many listings sold/unsold/running in April that this should be all that big a problem for you. You don't appear to have maxed out your free listings. If you're not planning to return from vacation until May, this is kind of a non issue - your free listings counter starts over again.
If you find relisting inconvenient or difficult - I'd recommend relisting in bulk from the Sellers Hub/Unsold and Not Relisted it's quick and pretty painless.

Thanks to everyone, and everyone in general. I spent a ludicrous amount of time trying to find the vacation setting, which I *knew* I had used before. This included following ebay's instructions on the help pages, which are totally outdated. At some point I did what I always do in cases like this--checked the forum, and by golly, there was my answer.
(Not one I liked, and geez Louise, you'd think ebay would actually tell us when they change these things.)

I think that may be a little unfair. If you are unable to find it on your own, of course you are welcome to come here and get a helping hand. That is usually always a good idea.
But a quick Google search for something like "Ebay Vacation Mode" will return this link right at the top.

You can also utilize your Manage Your Store page for all kinds of options when you have a store to include your Vaca setting.
