For months Ebay has posted a red notice that I need to update my bank account information. The routine on the website doesn't work. It is impossible to complete the process because the software refuses to accept my bank account number. Nevertheless they have the right information somewhere because they have deposited thousands of dollar through managed payments to the account. So I chalked it up to a software bug and ignored.
Over the weekend the computers shut down my account demanding I fix the bank account update. I tried a half dozen more times and finally brought the problem to the attention of the support people. They indicated that they would fix it manually in 24 to 48 hours. Didn't happen.
I have called daily only to talk to Indians with no ability to understand the problem. They have no way to deal with software bugs. In the meantime I have notified the customers who placed orders over the weekend that I can't get paid so I can't ship and I hope they understand. I don't like stringing the customers along so I have decided to cancel their orders and close the account.
It is frustrating since I am a top rated seller with years of experience. But I can't fight computers. They can't think or fix themselves. Here is my question. I'm nervous about cancelling several hundred dollars worth of orders because I fear the computers will take the money they never deposited from my balance there. I don't trust Ebay at this point. Is there a way to prevent them from doing that other than putting a ban on Ebay using the checking account with my bank?
I'm going to put the cancellations into effect tomorrow 7/14. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It is a checking account yes?
This is the link I was given by eBay blues for MP issues.
Also you can try reaching out here https://www.facebook.com/eBayForBusiness
I don't know if they can help with payment issues though.

Only the ROUTING NUMBER for your checking account# is required. Not the entire checking account number (that could be why you are getting rejected). Routing Number is 9-digits (located on bottom of check on far left side.
Also important that NAME on your checking account, social security card and your EBAY profile page should be EXACT MATCH (otherwise you application may be denied). You cannot use "nick names" and everything must match.

Yes it is a checking account. I'm already an expert on updating a bank account. I don't and won't use facebook for anything. I appreciate the response.

I have been in Managed Payments in one of my selling accounts for about 1.5 years. For most of that time, I have had the same red warning about updating bank info you mentioned. The system worked fine, so I left it alone. I barely used that account, I concentrated on selling on my non MP account. Today I got the same dire warning you got, update or get shut down. So I decided to see if I could fix it.
When I clicked on update bank info, it gave me a couple of options. First one had something to do with checking account numbers. eBay already has that, & it works, so I scrolled down a little. Next was an option to receive two micro deposits to my checking account. I clicked on that & OK'ed it. It says eBay will send two micro deposits to my checking in 2-4 days. I then log in to eBay & post what the amount of those deposits is. Then I am supposed to be good to go. We'll see.......
I did the same process about a month ago when my second selling account was forced in to Managed payments. The wait for the micro deposits wasn't 2-4 days, it was like 5-7. But they did show up eventually, & the process worked.
I suspect eBay had a hole in their registration system that you & I went thru when we registered for MP. A year later the top notch crack staff at eBay has realized then didn't make us jump thru all their hoops & are now making us do that.
I hope this helps you.

Thanks I know those things. The computer says they want to verify account information which they already have and have been using since the advent of managed payments. They ask me log into the checking account internet access and verify the information which already includes the routing number. After that they want me to verify myself by entering the checking account number (ACH). It rejects the checking account number - the same one to which they have been making deposits. It is a software bug. It needs to be fixed manually by someone at ebay. Try getting ebay to fix something like that and you will understand my frustration. I'm pretty sure Ebay and I need to part ways. I'm just worried about them taking the refunds from the account to which they didn't deposit the payments. Take care.

I had the same results and after several days (more than a week) and tries, I pulled everything. I was afraid that the system would take over and I'd lose control of my listings. At least that's what they stated when reminded me to update my info, etc. I have all the info, spellings, etc. correct, too, so it basically scared me away from a successful ebay career. I'm trying to control my depression over this. SO out of my control!

It asked me for both the account number and the routing numbers. Were they wrong, or me? I filled out the blank spaces and got zip-a-mundo. Dang...

I feel your pain. The micro deposit was the first way I tried to get the job done. It didn't work. Then I went for the on-line method about 6 or 8 times to no avail. They have a third option which is to send them a copy of a bank statement but I shouldn't have to do that and won't. The software is definitely buggy. Ebay needs to fix it and leave us sellers alone while they do it. Now I can't get payments, I can't sell I can't buy. I'm fired by a computer.

It is definitely tough to do business with computers. At this point they might as well replace the management with computers.

Both the routing and account number is needed to get the funds deposited in the correct account.

I ended all my listings this morning. In a couple of hours I will to to the bank and block Ebay's access to the checking account. Then this afternoon I will cancel all the orders thereby forcing ebay to make the refunds themselves. I'm virtually certain their system would make the refunds from my account to which they didn't deposit anything. Ugly but that is the nature of software bugs. If you encounter them in your business don't be shy about communicating with your customers. They will generally stick with you if you keep them informed. I'm afraid Ebay has gotten too big to do that. It's too bad. I've been selling on Ebay since 1997.
