I recently purchased a $2000 drone on eBay and decided to sell it 30 days later a buyer purchased it my return policy was 14 days on the 28th day the buyer filed to return the item I received an email on the 16th from eBay saying to work it out with the buyer to return the item and if I don’t respond by the 21st they will issue the buyer a full refund and let him keep my drone as well so that same day the 16th I asked eBay to step in and help and filed an appeal I then was told wait 48 hours for eBay’s decision on the 23rd eBay email saying case closed appeal denied and a full refund issued to buyer without return of my item they tell me to communicate with buyer I send him return shipping several emails and he will not respond and eBay won’t step in and help because they said I didn’t respond to the return request but I did respond by appealing that decision I have sent several emails asking for help I’m at a loss this is not right I can’t just be out $2000

I don't know about Aussie laws but USsie laws says having an item you didn't pay for is not the legal definition of theft. The buyer didn't take the seller's personal property without their knowledge and with intent to deprive them of their property.
They attempted to return it. It's not their fault the seller didn't know the outcome when the seller fails to resolve.
MBG explains exactly what the circumstances are when a refund is made and the item isn't returned to the seller.
The seller doesn't accept returns.
The seller fails to provide a return label.
The seller's lack of proper action on their part caused them to lose the item. That's not the buyer's fault.
