Buyer requested package to be held at USPS

I shipped a package to someone and a delivery attempt was made on a few days later. The buyer requested that the USPS hold the package. I thought perhaps the buyer was on vacation last week and I waited.  8 days later no redelivery or pickup has occurred. I emailed the buyer thanking them for the purchase and the item is available for pickup at their local USPS. I also stated that if there are any issues please respond. No answer.

This was a auction and the buyer bid heavily ( I thought they overbidded)  to win the auction and paid immediately.

My fear is that the buyer may start a charge back and then pickup up the item after getting her money back.

It has happened to me before. The item is only $45.

It is very possible that I am wrong and the buyer is simply slow in getting her package.

Any advice if the my fears are correct and what I should do.

It was odd to me that I did not receive a reply from the buyer.

Re: Buyer requested package to be held at USPS

I would probably contact eBay about this.  If they do not pick the item up it will eventually be returned to you by USPS.  This has happened to me 1 or 2 times ever.  If you contact eBay through requesting a callback they will have record of what is going on and you will be more likely covered if they try what you are fearing.

Re: Buyer requested package to be held at USPS

I would not worry about this... you did your job in sending it out. The buyer could be on an extended trip and their mail is being held.

I would stop communicating as well. That never goes well in the end. You could be annoying the buyer and setting yourself up for problems. (like that they DID pick it up, but the counter clerk never did a delivery scan, so you can be setting yourself up for an Item Not Received claim from the buyer).

If the item is never picked up and returned back to you, I would just issue a refund at that time, minus the cost of shipping you paid to send it out. ONLY when you get it back.

Re: Buyer requested package to be held at USPS

There could be many reasons why a buyer did not respond. From a medical emergency to a family death and even a vacation.

Why get yourself worried and upset over an item that you state was "overbidded" Forget the 45 what was your cost of item, shipping, and fees.....that is the real amount and ask yourself is it worth worrying about. It will all work out one way another in time.

Re: Buyer requested package to be held at USPS

It is not about the money.  That is why you never see a uhaul hooked up to a hearse. You cannot take it with you. I only mentioned the value because I thought someone would ask that question.  I try to treat others the way I want to be treated.  Just want the buyer to be satisfied and no problems. But that is what selling is, not perfect. I have  to stop reading all the negative things on this forum. Thanks!

...my dearest friend, unfortunately, I, IMO, see only 1/3 of this world are still well-considered people...the matter about the rest unacceptable people gets even worse when it involves in closed-families...but one of my trusted friends said, "being happy even just only ONE good person left..."

...I apologize for misunderstanding your point...but keep in your mind, I'm here if you ever need anything...anything...whatever I have been going through in my life, I wanted to use those experience to help and to love the others...well, at least ONE left...I am doing my best with the helps of the Lord to be the one...
