Is there anything I can do at this point? I sold him a jersey on August 30, 2017, and I know he received it because I always make sure the item is delivered by following it. He filed an unauthorized purchase claim with his financial institution on December 26, 2017. At this point, tracking is no longer available so that proof is gone. Now, PayPal has charged me $20 on top of the amount they gave back to him. This is a scam that makes it almost impossible to prove in my favor. I have started printing my delivery confirmations so I can have that proof on paper the next time this happens, because I know it will!

For the future, I take screen shots of all tracking and save it.
You might try going to the Post Office. They might hold the info on their computers longer.

Did you buy your postage through ebay? If you did there will be a record of it in paypal. Remember, you just need proof of shipment and not delivery.

Make sure you file a police complaint in his town and usps mail fraud
He's stealing from you
Did you talk to a Paypal rep about this? why were you not protected under their seller protection
You should be getting more inoformation about this
Signature confirmation will always help on an expensive item

FYI, I just would like to inform you that your statement is not correct. all that is needed is a DELIVERED scan to have a case closed in op's favor. Showing it was ONLY shipped means nothing in the world of chargebacks.

From paypal:
To help us determine if you’re protected by Seller Protection, you must respond in the PayPal Resolution Center within 10 days and provide proof of shipment for unauthorized claims or proof of delivery for Item Not Received claims.
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/brc/chargebacks
PS.
You should not be giving advice on this forum unless you are certain that it is correct, it could cost someone money.

@ekmadonna You need to read the PayPal user agreement & correct your statement 🙂

well I guess maybe I do. I have had 2 cases opened for UNAUTHORIZED PURCHASE. all I had to do to get them closed immediatly was show the item was DELIVERED. End of chargeback. If the item purchased was delivered it obviously must have been shipped. Proof of shipment with no DELIVERED scan will not get your money back after a chargeback. that is all I was saying folks at least not to my knowledge. Pleae continue to try and correct me if I am wrong?

I will try contacting the Post Office. Thank you

I did talk to PayPal yesterday and they said they are still fighting the case for me. They were nice and refunded the $20 chargeback fee they originally took from me.
I found the guy on FB and messaged him. He responded and was not happy that I was "harassing" him. I asked him why he filed that claim 4 months later. He said he has been a victim of identitfy theft and there are a lot of things his investigators are trying to sort out. He said there were a lot of items purchased and sent to his home and picked up before someone got home. I don't know. I do feel bad if this is true because identity theft is a very serious situation for someone to have to go through, but he then was trying to accuse me of being one that stole his identity and that he was turning my message and "threats" over to his investigator. I just told him that I had nothing to hide and would be happy to talk to anyone because I have all my printouts of the sale, the emails where I was paid and shipped the item, and a screen shot of the feedback that I left him (he didn't leave feedback for me). The only thing I don't have, but will from now on, is a printout of the delivery confirmation. Thanks to everyone that responded in this thread.

someone already posted the paypal policy above showing you are wrong. For unauthorized proof of shipment is all that is needed.

Well....fact is, PayPal has my tracking info to the buyer, yet they refunded his money so I lost the money and my item. You can link anything you want, but clicking that link don't get my money back, so there you go!
The problem is with your Tracking already being removed you have to have further steps to show you shipped the buyers address. A postal receipt has worked for some sellers or a screen shot of the tracking showing it was shipped while the tracking was still active

I was told by an USPS employee at my local branch that they are able to see the tracking for 6 months on their computer system. So maybe if you go to a branch office with the tracking, they might be able to provide you with the proof of delivery. Good luck.
