Buy it now button

Say I list an item for $10 with no reserve for 7 days. I also add the buy it now button for $30. Does the buy it now button ever go away?

It sure does.  The 'Buy it now" option disappears from your auction when somebody places a bid on the auction, except in 4 categories where it remains available until the bidding reaches 50% of the BIN price (i.e., $15 in your example).

You should always set the opening bid at an amount that you'd be willing to sell for, in case you get just one bidder.

If you really want thirty dollars, since this seems to be a concern, you need to list the item at that price. Your item may not get more than one bid, and it is inadvisable to cancel if you don't like the price it went for.

If you really want $30 skip the auction and list it as a BIN for $30. Buyers usually will not bid a BIN price on an auction format as it is a waste of time and they will hit the back button. Auctions are for people willing to let buyers decide the final price. Sellers have completely ruined auction here on Ebay starting them at BIN prices. People just do not understand how auctions work.

I have sold as BIN and as Auction as well as Best Offer. I just couldn't locate eBay's info on when the BIN button disappears during a auction. I set $10 because thats what it takes me to break even after fees and I really want to get rid of said item. I set BIN button at $30 because I thought someone may not want to wait for auction to end and they don't want to risk losing action or paying more than $30. Other similar items are selling in $30-50 range, so Maybe that person would think $30 was a good deal. But all said I just need to get rid of item, hence $10 start. If I wanted to sit on for awhile I would only do BIN.
