Bots winning items?

In the last few months I've had experiences with old, resurrected eBay accounts winning items from me, and not communicating or paying.

These accounts feature incomplete or invalid addresses and often belong to people who are now deceased.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Anyone have any insight into what the purpose of this type of fraudulent activity is?

Could this be some type of security penetration testing by cyber-criminals?

Your memory is impressive!  I can scarcely remember what happened on this forum two days ago!

@lagarto_electronico  I have no idea why people are doing this - I do know that those who offer eBay accounts for sale tout that they can be used for selling ('account has a great history!') but I have no idea if that actually is true.  Probably the most dismally stupid on earth are those who actually obtain them and then try to use them - they usually seem to have some underhanded scheme that makes no sense to anyone with a bag of brain cells.

If the buyer has not paid, you don't have the shipping address yet.

That is not correct.

In fact, I currently have a completed auction in which a buyer has not paid, but the address is listed in the invoice clearly. wrong.jpg

In some instances when you send an invoice it will not show the buyer's address, but even then there is sometimes a work around to see it anyway.

Additionally, the Trust & Safety department has the ability to exam the IP address, bid history, and transaction history of buyers to determine if they are using a VPN system.

Re: Bots winning items?

That is not correct.

Often the invoice shows the address of the buyer before the buyer has paid. People keep responding indicating that is not the case, as though misrepresenting an easily verified fact helps them mock someone on the internet so they can feel they won an argument.

Additionally, in many of these instances Trust and Safety verified my suspicions and removed the buyers from eBay.

So, you are wrong.
