When is this crap going to be stopped?

Serial bid retractor.
Seriously Ebay, Make this stop

Yikes, that member has 66 retractions in the past 12 months, and 10 in the past 30 days! And one of their bids on the listing in question was retracted just 8 seconds after it was placed. Since the member has only 15 feedback, I wonder if this situation comes from some fundamental misunderstanding about how eBay auctions work.

its not going to stop
all you can do is to block the bidder.
other bidders dont like any monkey business and this is a prime example
good bidders want to see a clean auction that runs the full 7 days
I run about 2000 auctions a year that end with a bidder
I depend upon my repeat bidders who know its not me that is playing around
good luck

Might I suggest that you change your selling platform from auctions to a fixed buy it now price, immediate payment required & NO best offers. This is the only way right now to stop these irresponsible people from this behavior. I stopped selling auction style years ago due to what you have posted. Now when I have a sale, I always get paid. Sorry for your situation & frustration. Have a better day.
Happy Selling.

Im not the seller, Im the **bleep** bidder that was effectively blocked

Thats because it is bid blocking

Complaints about bid retractions are usually from sellers.
So did you mean that a seller cancelled after you bid?
Otherwise, don't understand your message.

if your bid was blocked because of a bid retraction then thats too bad
bid retractors are notorious for messing up a good auction
you are supposed to re enter the correct bid if you messed one up and had to cancel it
would you care to elaborate why you are against bid blockers
the community members would really like to know what happened

The final retraction was done 44 seconds before the auction ended and as noted above, it was up for only 8 seconds. Then two other bidders each placed two bids after that final retraction. That doesn't sound like effective bid blocking, to me.
I see that you have a feedback score of 140, and so does one of those two bidders who placed two bids after that final retraction. If that late bidder is you, then I just don't understand how you were blocked by that bidder who retracted.

You didn't say if you were a seller or the buyer in your post. This is the selling forum. No need to curse at me. I'm not the one who blocked your bid.
Have a nice day!

I have never retracted a bid, so this is a serious honest question.
Can a bid really be placed and retracted in the span of 8 seconds without coordination between bidder and seller?
Whenever I see or hear bid retraction my mind goes to shill bidding. I'm certainly not an expert on the subject though, maybe there are legitimate reasons.

A bid retraction is done by the seller. It's a single person bidding and then retracting, so there is no coordination needed.
If a bid was cancelled, that would have been done by the seller. Didn't happen in this case.
This was just a very indecisive bidder.

After reviewing this again, the timing may not prove that this was blocking. But, the behavior is absolutely typical of these malicious actors.
Either way, it is VERY suspicious. Enough so, that the seller agrees with me...

In eBay jargon, bidders retract and sellers cancel. So if a bid was retracted, that means that it was done entirely by the bidder, with no participation at all from the seller. And yes, that can be done within 8 seconds after placing a bid.
Shill bidders do sometimes retract, if they find that their bid has exceeded the earlier bidder's full proxy bid. But I don't think that's what happened here.

Sellers get hurt by retractions by bidders of buyers. But buyers sometimes get a great sale of a retraction of another bidder. I got a great winning bid last month.
I always check a bidder above me to see how many retractions that bidder has. Wow, the bidder above me had 63 bid retractions in a month and 652 bid retractions in a year. If I was the seller, I would have blocked such a buyer but this seller didn't notice it. It was a great auction I won since this bidder retracted his bid(s).
Sellers get an email from any retracted bids...sellers need to watch their auctions.
Me, I am also on the lookout for them to get a great deal of an auction.
