Bid Cancellations

Is anyone else having a number of cancelled bids lately? Seems I have had more than usual. Does the seller have any recourse when the reason is "entered wrong amoun"t and it is the opening bid amount.

Bid Cancellations

Does the seller have any recourse.......

@mysterytree

No.  I suppose you could report the buyer, but you will have to do it by contacting customer service since the "buyer" is no longer your buyer.  Too much trouble, and eBay does not appear to do anything anyway. There is no limit as to how many bid retractions you can make, only some time restrictions related to the ending time of the auction.

Actually, this dropdown list for cancelling a bid has  basically been referred to as another "pick a lie" situation for the most part.

Bid Cancellations

Bid cancellations aren't NEARLY as disruptive as if the same bidder did not have the option to cancel his bid, won your item and then refused to pay.

Bid cancellations are definitely the the less of the two evils.

Just sayin'.

Well, they are public record so I cancel anyone's bid and block them if they have retractions showing.

Bid Cancellations

Yes, I've lost about 4 - 5 auctions since June. The pattern is nearly the same every time - a buyer will bid within a day or two of the auction going live. The day before the auction ends, I will receive an email notification from eBay saying the bid was retracted. In every single case, the reason was "buyer entered wrong amount". I even had this happen with less than 8 hours to go on the auction, which I thought eBay did not allow. Every single one of these buyers never placed a bid. So it's just another loophole for buyer's remorse. I agree that it's better than having them win the item and never pay. eBay has also been their usual, useless self by not doing anything. As frustrating as it is, I just block these sellers and move on.

As the others said, count your blessings that you escaped from a non-payment situation and keep rolling.  The only way to avoid this is to list fixed price, immediate payment required. But then you get the  baseless NAD/chargeback tools climbing out of their shed.  A retracted bid really is the best that can happen if a buyer wants to back out before an auction ends.
