Looks like Buyers will now be able to select how long they want the offer to be good for instead of the standard 48 hours.

I could actually totally miss a 12 hour offer. I shut my computer down at 6 pm, watch TV and go to bed. Computer won't be on until next morning in which time the 12 hours could be totally over.

Also, I wonder if the buyer makes a 12 hour offer does the seller have the option to choose 12 hours for a counteroffer?

I completely agree. I try to check eBay messages when I can, but I do not live on the computer or the phone. I am sure there will be 12 hr offers to which I will never respond.

Also, a buyer who sets a 12 hr limit on an offer suggests to me that he or she is looking at other similar items and the offer made to me was most likely the lowest. So I can accept the lower offer at face value or counter slightly on the belief that the buyer is looking for the best deal (who doesn't always look for bargains?).

I do not see how this benefits sellers. I work business hours (because it IS a business, and I have personal life and a family outside of my job), so I could feasibly lose out on sales because someone can't wait for a response until I am back in the office in the morning. Most buyers do not know that sellers are not robots attached to their computers, and this "test run" program only caters to impatient, demanding buyers who believe that they are.

Probably not, because that would be fair for sellers, and we can't have that, now.

Then I wonder why they chose yesterday to announce this "test"? A second test? The first test failed? Take the heat off all the complaints about GTC?

I agree 12 hours seems like too soon. As someone else in the replies said say their cut off time is 5pm and they don't check again until like 9 or 10am the next morning the 12 hour window already left. 24 seems like a better number for me.

When they were testing this awhile ago I think there were more timeframes available. I would have to see if I can find those posts about it but I think I recall more options than are currently being offered.

The other problem with the 12 hours is if you are dealing with buyers/sellers in different time zones or even countries.

Good. I hope this becomes the norm. As several people have said, this is business. Business entails competition. If I don't respond to a 12 hour offer and miss a sale, and another seller responds and gets the sale, well, that's exactly how business actually works.
