I sold this necklace https://ebay.us/m/wkE0Ba and this necklace is what the buyer is returning saying it didn't match description!! Ebay automatically sent him a refund. It is obviously not what i sold him. There doesn't seem to be any recourse for me to dispute this. How could I lose my necklace and the $88+ and not have any recourse?? Please help this is an obvious bait and switch and he gets away with it. I"m a respectable seller and don't sell this kind of garbage. I'm really upset that he gets away with this. Any help would be appreciated

No, ebay doesn't "automatically" send your buyer a refund and let them keep the item .... unless you denied the return.
Did you?
You might want to read up on ebay's MBG (money back guarantee) before you continue to sell here.

It looks like the necklace that you had in your original listing, but, it also looks like it has been heavily tarnished from sweat and chlorine. I sell sterling silver products and it just doesn't mix well with Summer weather on some people.
The only way that ebay is going to issue a refund without a return, is if you accidentally clicked on the issue refund button when you received that return from ebay. Usually, a customer opens a return and ebay sends you a notice saying that they have sent a return label on your behalf and if you don't want it returned you can issue a full refund now. If you did send that refund, the customer is not required to return the item. So sorry.
If a refund hasn't been sent yet, the customer has until August 19th to return it. If you do receive it back, check for your .925 stamp to make sure it is yours, issue the refund (partial or full), clean it up with SS polish, and sell it again.

That would take a pretty long time. To me it looks like a piece that has had its precious metal content stripped with electrolysis. It's distusting enough that there are people doing this, but I have never seen one so evil as to RETURN the jewelry for a refund.
There's an especially hot place waiting for this piece of dog poo to roast someday. Be sure to add their name to your Blocked Buyer List @retro_licious so they can't do this to you again!!

I am sorry this happened, but rather than argue with them, you should have simply accepted the return and then reported the buyer. Not only would have avoided the defect you probably received by not accepting the return, you may have been been able to reach out to eBay after you reported and then refunded the buyer, and have gotten a courtesy reimbursement from them if the buyer has been reported in the past.

@gurlcat said this piece looks like the rhodium has been stripped from it.
The buyer made the comment in the return claim that "the piece is not silver, it is copper". So that sounds like he did strip the piece, hoping that it was sterling under the rhodium.
I know this is nitpicking but you have in the title & IS that the necklace is "silver/rhodium plated", although you don't say "sterling". I didn't see anywhere where you said it had a silver mark, if not, how did you know it was silver under the rhodium? Then your description says "Rhodium plating is a jewelry process that coats metals like silver, platinum, and white gold with a thin layer of rhodium to improve shine, durability, and resistance to tarnishing and corrosion." This statement could lead a buyer to think that, even though it doesn't say sterling, it infers that it is, and I think that is what your buyer thought he would be getting; instead, he got copper.

Rhodium is far more valuable than sterling silver. I believe the buyer stripped off both metals and then separated them from each other. There are kits you can buy to do it.

Actually, no, it doesn't take that long. I had a customer 2 years back that did that to a solid sterling silver medal over a few week's time. I had it sent back to me and we had it refinished with instructions on how to keep it clean himself. It was 2 years ago this month so it was smack dab in the middle of Summer and he did say that he wore it every day and was swimming with it.
But, that doesn't mean that this customer could potentially be lying. We both know those types of people are out there.

"I didn't see anywhere where you said it had a silver mark,"
There is a picture of the .925 marking in the original listing.

Why would someone do that?

'eBay automatically sent him a refund'...that doesn't happen.
Buyer opens a claim and you get like 4 days to respond...no response and buyer can escalate it and then buyer gets a refund.
And we as sellers are suppose to work it out with a buyer first.
'silver/Rhodium plated'...I have no idea what 'rhodium' is and stupid me would think it is all sliver.

Thank you for the explanation. I don't know anything about rhodium, had no idea about its value.

Thank you for pointing out the picture. I didn't look at the pictures so did not see that mark. I only read the IS and the description.

I only looked at the pictures and didn't look at the description. LOL
