Avoiding scams

I received a message from a potential customer today.  I don't sell many things but apparently somebody reached out to this person through some outside eBay means trying to sell my item through another messenger or social media.  They had a screenshot of my eBay listing and in the message said something about how I wasn't budging on the price. Then when questioned said he was legit and knew me through college. I never went to college. I sent screenshots of all the information I had to the eBay spoof team but nobody in eBay customer support was much help.

Any advice as to how to stop this or avoid this in the future would be very helpful.

Thanks community in advance

Reporting it is the most important thing to do.  Ebay customer service isn't likely going to have any way of helping you.  You could check with trust and security.  You can contact them via the link at the bottom of this Ebay policy page.

Learn how to recognize a scam and don't engage when one pops up and report them all.

eBay may or may not do anything with your report but either way they will not tell what actions they have taken.
