Autopay in 7 days?!

What is this crap? Just sold an item and it says:

Autopay at Jan 17 7:00pm PST

Buyer wants to shop more
They may check out early

I have to wait 7 days for eBay to process their payment? That is awful.

Would it be awful if tomorrow they find another one of your Items to buy, added it to the previous Item and paid for both tomorrow?

Buyers under Auto-Pay are offered a choice, to have eBay do the auto-pay in an hour or hold off for up to 7 days so they can buy more stuff from you and combine the shipping. You might sell more and if they do buy another one or two items avoid the 40 cent fixed fee on those.

Yes, you do retain the "buyer rules" that require a buyer to put up a payment source in order to place a bid.  While this used to ensure auto-payment at the listing end, eBay is rolling out a new feature that allows the buyer to select up to 7 days to pay.   Not everyone (seller or buyer) is enrolled in this yet.

It seems to me that you may as well turn off the auto-pay feature and you can file the unpaid item cancellation after 4 days to hurry things along.  I believe you can remove yourself from this test by unchecking the preference that allows combined shipping as well:

Yeah this is complete horsepoo. I have the unpaid item assistant to automatically cancel unpaid orders after 4 days yet this 7 day autopay crap gets around it? I hate this place. Always screwing the sellers. I should be able to cancel the order if unpaid.

Unless eBay changed it since it was first implemented, you may be able to still use the unpaid item cancellation on these after 96 hours (to the minute/second).  It doesn't provide a pleasant buyer experience to be sure since eBay provided them with the option to use "up to 7 days" with their new test.  Otherwise the auto-pay will kick in after 7 days.

Or if you turn off the "Buyer Rules" you can use your unpaid item assistant if you don't wish to provide combined shipping to your buyer for auctions, and use the "Immediate Payment Required" feature for any fixed price listing.  Or switch to all fixed price listings, with the IPR.

Buyer Rules:

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

eBay initiated the "up to 7 days" program for auctions because buyers who wished to buy more than one of your products had to pay for each item separately at full shipping cost.  When my buyer ID, was finally enrolled, I quit bidding on auctions that required the buyer rule that led to the auto-pay situation.  I buy mostly jewelry and sterling smalls.  It I won ten auctions with $6 shipping on each, I would be paying $60 for ten items that could easily be combined in a parcel weighing a few ounces for way less.

I don't know what you sell, so you will have to decide if getting paid faster, is better than getting paid less.

This only applies to auctions.

Blanket statements are rarely true.  The vast majority of active sellers on Ebay are Small sellers.  I get complaining about something that may have happened that you don't agree with, but you need to give details.  Ebay isn't always right, but they aren't always wrong either.  And if you want to find out the correct information, then give details.  If you just prefer to sling mud, then statements with no support will do that.

My concern is that the buyer is waiting to see if a similar item is listed in the next 7 days by another seller that is less than mine and the buyer cancels my transaction in order to buy the other.

BTW...The first buyer who used this still hasn't "shopped" during the past 7 days and the auto payment is scheduled to occur in a couple of hours.
