Authenticity guarantee returned - Fedex lost package

Hi All,

I sold a Chanel handbag last week for just under $5,000. After it was received by the authenticator, they deemed it "not as described condition", not that it was inauthentic, rather that there were some scratches and discoloration. The buyer was refunded *before* we received the bag back and upon calling customer service, we were ensured multiple times that we were "covered" if anything goes wrong.

I receive a text from fedex saying it was delivered, which is weird because no one was home to sign for it and immediately I dropped where I was to go home and get it because we live on a VERY busy street. We have had a few packages stolen in the past and I thought adult signature required meant that someone had to be there to sign for it. I did not  want to risk a $5,000 package sitting on our front door for longer than it had to be. When I get home I cannot find it anywhere, ask neighbors, drive around to find the Fedex guy and end up with nothing. I have a front door video of the driver dropping it off without interacting with anyone or ringing the doorbell.

I opened a trace with fedex and called ebay right away, to which I am told the signature is just a circle and not a name. It immediately becomes clear to me that the driver just signed it himself and left it on the front door (I can only assume he did not want to wait for someone to answer the door/put it back on his truck for tomorrow). Since it is "signed" for, eBay has told me that they cannot help me because it has a signature. I have never signed anything with a circle, I always sign my full name on delivery services for this exact reason. I doubt fedex will help either as the "signature" is there. I am now stuck without the bag or the money and have no recourse.

Can anyone offer any advice?

If you have video of FedEx dropping it off, then surely you have video of where it went.  There isnt anything else to do but file a police report.  eBay will not cover this nor will FedEx as both have confirmation it was delivered.  If your cameras do not protect yourself on a busy street I suggest an upgrade.  For $500 I have 4 google nest cameras protecting my stuff.

There is no other motion on the video besides the Fedex driver and later in the day my mailman. The camera is pretty visible, in and of itself to act as a deterrent. I can only assume that if someone is going to steal a box off a porch, they will do it outside the field of view of the camera.

My other hope is that the fedex driver just signed it and meant to come back later to drop it off.

you should be able to tell if the Fedex guy was carrying something back to the truck?

Since Covid, these drivers just scribble something on the pkg to prove delivery, Ive had that happen many times. I also have a camera at my door..unfortunately its not a deterrent, Ive had two pkgs stolen.

I can't see him carrying anything, but again that was my wishful thinking.

Wow hun that is terrible. Wait until tomorrow to see if FedEx comes back with your package, if not file a police report and contact the carrier of your home and property insurance and file a claim.
