Artist identification

What is the best cute to try and find information about artist identification? I have googled and found similar paintings but not exact or with the same monogram/signature. This is what I am trying to identify, does anyone know or have any suggestions?

Re: Artist identification

Hi, @choeytx

i think there is a very good chance that your child’s portrait was done by Edmund Henry Wuerpel (American, 1866-1958). There are some striking similarities between your work and those i saw attributed to Wuerpel online.

One of the best research methods regarding artwork is to be a persistent and patient Googler. In this case, i searched by keyword “child in hood charcoal artist EHW.” With a bit of luck and careful, thorough  review, you may get some good results.

Hope this helps!!

Hi Maxine! Yes, you are right about the original artist, thank you. (I need to learn how to search by image.)

The OP’s piece appears to have been redrawn ( in charcoal possibly) by an artist with the initials EHW. It does not look to be an exact replica of the original by Adams. I still think there is a chance that the artist that copied Little Grace is Wuerpel.

Here are the two works (Adams’ original is on the left), side-by-side for comparison. Wuerpel drew similar children in some of his portraits. Hopefully, all this will help the OP.
